Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS

Ability to describe and implement chronological, age-appropriate skills and activities for students with disabilities while emphasizing strengths and minimizing disabilities.

Communicates effectively with parents, students, agency personnel and the business community.

Works with individual students and provides one-to-one instruction on the job site.

Provides instructional support for students in employability skills, programming at the high school level and vocational-related remediation, as appropriate.

Assists in determining and providing for any necessary work site modifications which enhance student performance.

Contacts community service organizations to promote training and employment opportunities for students with disabilities.

Uses office equipment and other instructional devices, as appropriate.

Performs routine clerical tasks including filing, typing, sorting, etc.

Maintains a positive, courteous manner when interacting with children, parents, other employees, and the public.

Assists assigned schools in addressing parent concerns and questions.

Ensures compliance with local, state and federal regulations, policies and laws.

Assumes responsibility for professional development; for keeping current with the literature, new research findings, and improved techniques in specialized areas; and, for attending appropriate professional meetings.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Human Services area.

Ability to make independent judgments.

Outstanding organizational and management skills.

Superior communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively in a team setting.

EXPERIENCE

Knowledge of Internet software, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and data base software applications.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must. Interpersonal skills are essential.

Knowledge of current research and trends in education, instructional strategies, instruction uses of technology, and multicultural education.
