Job Summary Provide advisement regarding career, Post-secondary education (PSE), and financial aid needs to eligible program participants who attend the target junior high and high schools. Develop and conduct workshops and program activities. Train and supervise peer mentors. Plan and implement campus visits and field trips. Contribute to the development and implementation of program goals and objectives. Advisor will serve students at some combination of the following target schools: Valley JHS, West Lake JHS, Granger HS; Hunter JHS, Kennedy JHS, and Hunter HS; Jefferson JHS, Kearns JHS, and Kearns HS; Northwest Middle, and West HS (subject to change). Some evening and weekend activities may be required. A requirement of this position is to travel to multiple sites and work with minimal supervision. This is a grant funded position. Academic and career advising theory and practice. Student development theory and practice, learning strategies, and advising techniques. Higher education environment and Student Affairs functions including enrollment procedures, financial aid procedures, academic program requirements, college resources, college policies and procedures. Financial Aid scholarship and scholarship application process and resources. Utah public education core curriculum and high school graduation requirement requirements. Interpretation of assessment instruments (career, academic, and personal interest). Higher education programs and opportunities, especially those within Utah. Career exploration, values clarification, and goal setting. Impact of culture on learning, learning styles, and strategies. Demonstrated respect for and understanding of the needs of the

target population. Computer operation and data systems knowledge and skills (including MS Office, Power BI, and Adobe Suite). Program development and implementation, event planning and management scheduling. Outreach, communication, and facilitation skills. Documentation of eligibility and services. Work with confidential and sensitive information. Work independently and as a team member and manage multiple projects. Tutor training, peer training, and peer leadership training and workshop presentations. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College. Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities. Minimum qualifications Bachelor's degree required, with emphasis in education, psychology, counseling, STEM, or related field. One (1) to Four (4) years of direct, paid, full-time, professional work experience in TRIO programs, student services, academic advising, or related roles. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required to travel to multiple schools and program activity sites. Must also be approved to drive program participants to activities by SLCC Motor pool. Must pass Salt Lake City School District and Granite School District background checks. Preferred Qualifications Two (2) to four (4) years of direct, full-time, paid, TRIO experience. Master's degree, with emphasis in education, psychology, STEM, or related field.
