Our Employment Consultant Team serves in 16 offices throughout Vermont in close partnership with Division of Blind and Visually Impaired and HireAbility Vermont. We work with individuals and small focused groups of people with a variety of disabilities around their unique needs; supporting efforts to help them gain and maintain sustainable employment.

com). This meaningful work includes these specific responsibilities: Support to
Program Participants:
  • Interview and evaluate individuals to assess vocational skill and eligibility for job openings.
  • Explore career paths and training opportunities.
  • Assist in development of resumes, job seeking and interviewing skills.
  • Arrange assessment and networking interviews with employers.
  • Arrange for interviews or furnish with job leads.
  • Serve as liaison with other staff involved in direct assistance to people with barriers to employment.
  • Provide information on business hiring criteria and job requirements.
  • Coordinate job referrals, placement and follow-up.
  • Document participant activities and business contacts.
  • May participate in a variety of VABIR and inter-agency staff and committee meetings to plan, evaluate and coordinate programs, services, and activities.
Outreach to
Area Businesses:
  • Develop and maintain contacts with community businesses.
  • Learn hiring practices, job requirements, local business trends.
  • Communicate business information back to job seekers and other staff.
  • Identify and assist in developing job opportunities for program participants.
  • Refer participants to businesses for work experiences, on the job training and job openings.
  • Follow-up job placements to assist businesses in resolving problems they may encounter.
  • Assist businesses to retain employees.
  • Coordinate with community resources as appropriate.
Requirements, Knowledge/Skills:
Experience in a relevant field, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired such as human services, human resources, community outreach or peer mentorship.
  • Ability to work with a variety of individuals and partners in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong writing, speaking, administrative and organizational skills.
  • Experience with facilitating the job search process through individual and small group meetings and workshops.
  • Passion for working with people with barriers to employment and an ability to communicate effectively with individuals with diverse needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the business community and social service agencies.
  • Mindset of continuous improvement and a passion for career development work.
  • Requires high levels of initiative, diplomacy, and sensitivity.
  • Proficiency with computer applications including the Microsoft office suite, database use and date entry.
  • Strong ability to prioritize tasks and organize and balance multiple responsibilities.
Minimum qualifications:
Education & Experience
  • Associate degree in a human service or business-related field preferred. Alternatively, 2 years of relevant employment or a combination of education and employment from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Reliable and consistent transportation
  • light regional travel is required.
  • Background check required.
