The Employment Specialist helps individuals with disabilities obtain and maintain meaningful, competitive employment in their communities. This position works closely with individuals to identify their interests, strengths, abilities, career goals, and support needs, and then develops employment opportunities that match the individual's goals with the needs of local employers. The Employment Specialist builds relationships with businesses and community organizations, identifies employment opportunities, assists individuals with the job-search process, and provides support during the transition into employment. The position may also provide job coaching, on-the-job training, follow-along services, and assistance with job retention. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Meet individually with people with disabilities to identify employment interests, skills, abilities, career goals, and support needs. Assist individuals with career exploration, job searching, applications, resumes, interviewing, and other job-search skills. Develop individualized employment opportunities that match the individual's abilities and career goals. Establish and maintain relationships with local employers and community businesses. Contact employers to identify potential job opportunities and promote the benefits of hiring individuals with disabilities. Coordinate job interviews, job shadows, informational interviews, work experiences, internships, and other employment opportunities. Provide job coaching and on-the-job training when needed. Help individuals learn job duties, workplace expectations, communication skills, and appropriate workplace behaviors. Provide follow-along support after placement to promote successful job retention. Work collaboratively with vocational rehabilitation counselors, families, case managers, employers, schools, and other community partners. Assist individuals in identifying and addressing barriers to employment. Educate employers about reasonable accommodations and effective strategies for supporting employees with disabilities. Maintain accurate case notes, progress reports, employment records, and other required documentation. Participate in team meetings, staffing meetings, employer meetings, job fairs, and community outreach activities. Maintain knowledge of local labor markets, employment trends, community resources, and disability employment practices. Follow all applicable agency, state, federal, confidentiality, safety, and employment requirements.
