Direct Care Worker Girls Shelter of Fort Smith, INC. - 4.0 Fort Smith, AR Job Details Part-time | Full-time | PRN 1 day ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Full Job Description Position Summary The Direct Care Worker provides compassionate, trauma-informed care and supervision to adolescent girls residing in the shelter. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and emotional support of residents while promoting personal growth, independence, and healthy decision-making. Direct Care Workers serve as positive role models and maintain a structured, supportive living environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide continuous supervision and ensure the safety and security of all residents. Build positive, respectful relationships with youth through trust, consistency, and encouragement. Implement daily schedules, routines, and recreational activities. Assist residents with daily living skills, including personal hygiene, housekeeping, meal preparation, and life skills development. Support residents in meeting educational, medical, counseling, and court-related obligations. Transport residents to appointments, school, and community activities as needed. Monitor resident behavior and utilize trauma-informed, de-escalation techniques during conflicts or crises. Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including shift notes, incident reports, medication logs (if applicable), and behavioral observations. Conduct room checks, facility inspections, and routine safety checks according to agency policy. Administer medications as authorized and document appropriately, if trained and certified. Enforce shelter policies, procedures, and expectations in a fair and consistent manner. Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and case planning with other staff members. Maintain confidentiality in accordance with agency policies and applicable laws. Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow all crisis intervention procedures. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Experience working with at-risk youth, adolescents, or residential care programs preferred. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and adolescent development is preferred. Ability to establish professional boundaries while building supportive relationships. Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to pass criminal background checks, child maltreatment registry checks, drug screening, and any other required screenings. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and remain active throughout the shift. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds. Ability to safely intervene during behavioral crises when necessary and trained. Ability to work evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules. Work Environment This position works in a residential shelter serving adolescent girls who may have experienced trauma, abuse, neglect, exploitation, homelessness, or family instability.
