CAREGIVER FOR 4-YEAR-OLD CHILD WITH AUTISM & ADHD

Monday-Saturday Hours:
Approximately 100 hours per month
Employment Type:
Part-Time — approximately 100 hours/month, so not quite full-time but close to it
Pay:
Through IHSS We are looking for a reliable, patient, attentive, compassionate, and safety-conscious caregiver to provide one-on-one care, supervision, and companionship for our 4-year-old child with autism and ADHD. This is an IHSS-funded position with approximately 100 authorized hours per month. While this is technically a part-time position, it is close to full-time in terms of monthly hours.
IMPORTANT REQUIREMENT
Applicants MUST already have an active IHSS provider number. We are specifically looking for someone who is already registered as an IHSS provider. Experience working with children with autism, ADHD, developmental disabilities, or other special needs is strongly preferred, but we are willing to consider someone who is patient, compassionate, responsible, and genuinely willing to learn.
SCHEDULE
Monday 6:00 AM-8:00 AM 6:00 PM-9:00 PM Tuesday-Friday 6:00 PM-9:00 PM Saturday ☀ 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Sunday Off The schedule provides approximately 100 IHSS hours per month. Schedule flexibility is required. Some days may require adjustments based on our family's needs. On some Mondays, the caregiver may need to help take or accompany him to his gymnastics class in Santa Maria at 4:15 PM. The caregiver must be comfortable with occasional schedule changes and be willing to help with transportation when needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide close, attentive supervision to help keep him safe
  • Help keep him safe because he is an eloper and may attempt to wander or run away
  • Assist with toileting and personal hygiene
  • Help with daily living activities and routines
  • Assist with transitions and changes in routine
  • Provide calm, patient support during meltdowns
  • Learn his individual communication style, routines, triggers, and calming strategies
  • Prepare simple meals and snacks
  • Help with laundry
  • Help with cleaning related to his care
  • Engage him in safe, age-appropriate activities
  • Provide lots of companionship and positive interaction
  • Be his friend and build a trusting relationship with him
  • Accompany our family on outings, errands, and activities when needed
  • Assist with transportation to activities or appointments when needed
  • Follow parent instructions regarding his care, safety, routines, and individual needs
  • Maintain clear and dependable communication with the parent This is a hands-on caregiving position.
We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with children and is comfortable being actively involved in his care.
TRANSPORTATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
  • Have a valid driver's license
  • Have a clean driving record
  • Have access to reliable and safe transportation
  • Be comfortable transporting a young child when needed
  • Be willing to transport or accompany him to activities, including occasional gymnastics in Santa Maria
  • Be willing to have the child's car seat installation inspected by a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST)
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must already have an active IHSS provider number
  • Experience caring for young children preferred
  • Experience with autism, ADHD, developmental disabilities, or special-needs children strongly preferred
  • Must be comfortable assisting with toileting and personal care
  • Must be comfortable working with a child who is an eloper
  • Must be patient, attentive, dependable, and safety-conscious
  • Must be able to remain calm and supportive during meltdowns
  • Must have reliable and consistent attendance
  • Must be willing to help with household tasks related to the child's care
  • Must be comfortable participating in family outings and errands when needed
  • Must have reliable transportation if transportation duties are required
  • Must be flexible when occasional schedule changes are necessary

If you have experience working with children with autism or developmental differences, that's wonderful. If you don't but believe you have the patience, heart, responsibility, and willingness to learn, we would still love to hear from you.
