I am assisting a family in identifying an experienced caregiver to support an elderly gentleman living with progressive dementia who currently resides at home in Rosemead, California. Our immediate priority is to help him remain safely and comfortably in his own home while providing meaningful relief for his wife, who has been serving as his primary caregiver. She currently balances his daily care while operating her own small retail business, making dependable daytime support the family's most urgent need. We welcome inquiries from experienced independent caregivers, private caregivers, Home Care Aides (HCAs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), licensed home care agencies, and other professionals with substantial experience supporting individuals with dementia. About the Individual The individual is: Male, 72 years old Lives at home with his wife in Rosemead, California Living with progressive dementia and Alzheimer's-related cognitive decline Has additional heart-related medical conditions and continues to receive care from long-established physicians in the Los Angeles area Experiences significant short-term memory loss while retaining many long-term memories Recognizes familiar people, places, and routines Continues to communicate well and participate in conversations Functions best in familiar surroundings with a consistent daily routine Is still able to remain at home with appropriate supervision and support Remaining at home is currently the family's preferred approach because familiar routines and surroundings help preserve his comfort, confidence, and overall quality of life. Current Family Situation His wife is currently responsible for nearly all aspects of his daily care. Because there is no consistent daytime support available, she often brings him with her while she works. This arrangement has become increasingly difficult to sustain as his care needs continue to grow. The family's primary goal is to reduce her daily caregiving responsibilities while ensuring he receives compassionate, engaging, and dependable care throughout the day. At this time, the family is not seeking hospice care, skilled nursing services, or permanent residential placement. They are focused on building a sustainable home care plan that allows him to remain safely at home for as long as appropriate while preparing thoughtfully for future needs. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone with meaningful experience supporting individuals living with: Alzheimer's disease Dementia Progressive cognitive decline Memory impairment Confusion and disorientation Wandering risk Behavioral or personality changes associated with dementia Experience supporting both the individual and their family throughout the progression of dementia is highly valued. Responsibilities May Include Depending on experience and qualifications, responsibilities may include: Providing companionship and meaningful social interaction Creating a calm, structured daily routine Supervising daily activities to promote safety Encouraging conversation, cognitive stimulation, and social engagement Preparing meals and encouraging hydration Assisting with medications and ensuring they are taken as prescribed Assisting with bathing, grooming, dressing, and other personal care as appropriate Accompanying him on walks, appointments, or community outings Monitoring changes in mood, behavior, or cognitive function Communicating observations with family members Performing light housekeeping related to his care Helping create an environment where his wife can return home able to spend quality time with him rather than immediately resuming caregiving responsibilities Ideal Caregiver The ideal caregiver is someone who: Has direct professional experience caring for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease Understands how dementia progresses and can adapt care as needs change Is patient, calm, compassionate, and emotionally mature Uses reassurance and redirection rather than correction when confusion occurs Promotes dignity, independence, and quality of life whenever safely possible Is dependable, observant, and communicates well with family members Can recognize meaningful changes in condition and communicate concerns promptly Is interested in becoming a trusted, long-term member of the family's support system Speaks Cantonese or Mandarin (preferred, but not required) Information We'd Appreciate If you believe you may be a good fit, we'd appreciate learning more about: Your professional caregiving experience Your experience supporting individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease Relevant certifications, licenses, or specialized dementia training Whether you work independently or through an agency Your availability and preferred schedule Areas you serve Your hourly rates or pricing structure Whether you provide transportation if needed Whether you can assist with medication administration and ensure medications are taken as prescribed References from previous families or employers If you've helped families successfully care for a loved one with dementia while allowing them to remain safely at home, we'd love to hear from you.
