Job Description

She arrived ten minutes early. The interviewer noticed. "Dependable?" "Yes." "Reliable transportation?" "Yes." "Can we count on you to show up when you're scheduled?" "Yes." "Last-minute changes?" "I can handle them." "Weekends?" "When we agree to them." "Clients who need a little extra patience?" "That's usually when patience matters." He smiled and made a note. "Good. Reliability is very important to us." She nodded. Then opened a folder of her own. "My turn." He stopped writing. She looked at her notes. "Can I count on you to give me the hours you schedule me for?" "Well, home care can be unpredictable." She made a note. "If my client goes to the hospital?" "Those hours could be affected." Another note. "Family cancels?" "Unfortunately, yes." "Client moves into assisted living?" "We'd work to find you another assignment." "How long does that take?" "It depends." She wrote something. The interviewer leaned forward. "We really do value dependable caregivers." "I can see that." She closed the folder. He smiled. "So. When can you start?" She stood and picked up her coat. "When I find an employer as dependable as you expect me to be." 20 HOURS
