Hello! My name is Lorraine, and I am looking for caregivers to help me with various activities and some personal care tasks. I am a 57-year-old wheelchair user affected by cerebral palsy which makes some ordinary things a challenge. That said, I have NOT let it stop me from creating a fabulous and fulfilling life! I am a published author, a public speaker, a blogger, a columnist, and a dog mom to the most adorable dog ever (and no, I am not biased - people say he's the cutest dog they have ever seen.) I have lived in Lawrence for over 30 years. I moved here shortly after I attended Emporia State University, where I got my undergrad and graduate degrees. I love this community, and my best caregivers are and have been college students, many of them in school for professions in the healthcare field. Numerous people who have worked with me through the years have said that they have learned things from me that they wouldn't have learned anywhere else and that those things gave them a whole new perspective and a huge advantage in later positions. This position is also perfect for anyone who is taking a gap year. My caregivers and I spend LOTS of time laughing with and learning from each other. The basic requirements of this position are: Working at least 15 hours per week Reliable transportation (for you to get to and from my house and to take me to appointments or when we run errands,) Tthe ability to lift my 50lb wheelchair in and out of a car, the ability to pass a background check (mandated by the state) And a love for dogs. What I offer in return is mostly flexible scheduling, $15 an hour (paid through Medicaid funding), Training, Excellent work experience, possible letters of recommendation commensurate with performance, And a super friendly, comfortable working environment. I am an open book and am more than happy to talk with you more if this position sounds like the right fit. You can reach me at LorraineandLevi at gmail dot com. I'm Lorraine. My job is to train and manage my caregivers, and Levi's job is to look adorable and beg for treats!! I look forward to talking to you! Thanks, and have a fabulous day!Job Type:
