General Description:
The Franklin Public Schools, a Prek-12 district, is seeking a skilled and experienced personal care assistant to work in the STRIVE Program at Washington K-2 Elementary School. The STRIVE Program is a specialized program with a low student to teacher ratio for students with intellectual and other developmental disabilities who require intensive programming and support. The program addresses the unique needs of each student, ensuring that instruction is developmentally appropriate. Students are provided with ongoing opportunities for inclusion on an individual basis with the support of program staff. Within this developmental model, the instructional strategies of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) are utilized throughout the school day.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Adapt to the student's mode of communication as necessary for instructional purposes
Assists with toileting, feeding, and positioning of student
Communicate with the teacher(s) on behalf of the student
Assisting the student to transition successfully from one class to the next
Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information
Accompanies the teacher and student on field trips and community-based instructional opportunities during the school day
Work with lead teacher to provide academic, social, and emotional support and intervention
Collects data
Performs reinforcement instructional services as delegated by the teacher, including reinforcing activities in the visual, auditory, motor and cognitive areas as well as life skills
Assists with related services, i.e., occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech, adapted physical education, and vision
Assists the assigned student on and off the bus at arrival and departure times
Attends training as required for performance of job. This may include, but is not limited to crisis intervention, CPR and First Aid
Accompanies the assigned student and assists the teacher during emergency drills
Completes any other duty or assignments as directed by the Principal and/or Special
Education Administrator
Qualifications:
Experience as a personal care attendant or certified nursing assistant preferred
Experience in public school setting
Experience working with teens with developmental disabilities
Able to take initiative and work independently
Compassion

Reliability
Must successfully pass Criminal Offender (CORI) background check and national fingerprinting screening (CHRI)
