This is a unique position for someone who enjoys building a strong working relationship with one person and supporting her across several areas of life rather than working with a large caseload. The same staff person will provide community support, and employment support.

What You'll Help With:

Community Participation You will help her get out into the community and participate in activities she enjoys.

This may include:

Parks, shopping, community events, libraries, attractions, or other places of interest Building comfort and confidence in community settings Practicing appropriate social interactions Developing relationships and community connections Learning to manage money and make choices while out in the community Supporting planning, flexibility, and coping when things do not go as expected Employment Support You will also help her explore and develop employment skills.

This may include:

Learning about jobs that match her interests and strengths Practicing workplace expectations Breaking job tasks into simple, manageable steps Learning how to interact with supervisors and coworkers Building stamina and confidence Developing problem-solving skills at work Providing support in an actual employment setting when appropriate What We're Looking For The right person does not need to know everything on day one. We will provide training. We are looking for someone who is: Calm, dependable, and patient Comfortable giving clear and simple directions Able to build trust without becoming overly controlling Positive and encouraging Comfortable supporting someone who may become frustrated or overwhelmed Willing to learn individualized behavior-support strategies Good at recognizing when to step in and when to encourage independence Organized enough to complete required documentation Interested in supporting the same person consistently over time Experience supporting people with autism, developmental disabilities, behavioral needs, employment, or community-based services is preferred. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Reliable vehicle and current automobile insurance Ability to transport the individual to community and employment activities Ability to walk and participate in community activities Ability to complete required agency training and documentation A bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, education, human services, or a related field is helpful but not required. Training & Support You will receive individualized training before being expected to work independently.

Training will include:

The person's support plan and goals Autism-specific support strategies Positive behavior support Emotional-regulation strategies Communication approaches that work best for her Employment-support strategies Community-safety expectations Documentation requirements Clinical and supervisory support will be available as you learn the role. Why This Position Is Different This is not a position where you will be sent from person to person throughout the week. Our goal is to identify one strong staff match who can consistently support the same individual across community participation, skill development, and employment. That consistency gives the staff member time to learn what works, build trust, and help the individual make meaningful progress toward greater independence. Services are provided through Hulme Resources Inc. in the Kansas City/Jackson County area.

Pay:

$23.00 - $26.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 - 25.0 per week
