Job Description

Personal Care Assistant (PCA)

Work Schedule Elementary:

8:45 AM - 3:45 PM Secondary (Middle/High): 7:45 AM - 2:45 PM Unpaid lunch: 30 minutes Role Summary The Personal Care Assistant supports students by providing behavioral, academic, and personal‑care assistance as directed by their case manager. This includes helping implement educational programs and supporting students with disabilities in daily routines, health needs, and classroom participation. Essential Responsibilities Provide instructional support as directed by the teacher (cognitive, motor, feeding, self‑help, behavior). Maintain student safety and awareness of environmental risks. Assist with personal hygiene (handwashing, toileting, diapering, clothing changes). Monitor and support student behavior following established guidelines. Support specialists with physical development activities. Prepare students for mainstream classes. Attend required trainings and in‑services (medical and instructional). Assist with orthopedic equipment; lift and reposition students as needed. Maintain records related to student progress. Implement positive behavior intervention supports. Collaborate with caseworkers, general education teachers, and staff. Support students in social interactions. Work independently and collaboratively. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards Knowledge of:

First Aid and CPR procedures Basic record‑keeping Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary Education & Requirements High School Diploma or GED Relevant experience preferred PA Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151) — within 1 year PA Criminal Clearance (Act 34) — within 1 year PA Department of Education FBI Clearance — within 1 year TB Screening — within 3 months Arrest/Conviction Form — within 1 year Education documentation (Diploma or Official Transcripts) Mandated Reporter Training Certificate (Act 126) — valid for 5 years
