Job Description

LIVE-IN CAREGIVER
Late-Stage Alzheimer's / Dementia Care New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania One opening
POSITION SUMMARY
We are hiring one live-in caregiver to provide 24-hour in-home support for a consumer with late-stage Alzheimer's disease. This is hands-on personal care, household support, transportation, and companion care in a private home. The right candidate has an immense amount of patience and understanding, experience with dementia-related care, common sense, an ability to follow protocol, and the habit of asking questions when the answer is not apparent.
SCHEDULE AND LIVING ARRANGEMENT
Live-in coverage while on shift: 24 hours per day, 7 consecutive days.
Shift handoff:
8:00 AM every Saturday.
Rotation:
7 days on, 7 days off. You remain on site for the full on-shift week and respond to nighttime needs. Designated overnight rest is provided. Interrupted sleep for toileting, safety, agitation, or other care needs is part of late-stage Alzheimer's work. During on-shift weeks the caregiver has bedroom access, bathroom access, kitchen access, and Wi-Fi access. The caregiver is a household worker living in the consumer's home during on-shift weeks, not a tenant.
COMPENSATION
$240.28 per live-in day. On a 7-on / 7-off rotation that is $1,681.96 per working week. Paid bi-weekly. Groceries during on-shift weeks are provided through a management grocery order. The caregiver selects items that work for the consumer's dietary needs and for the caregiver's own dietary needs, then cooks meals from those groceries. Mileage is reimbursed at $0.70 per mile for authorized consumer transportation while the caregiver is clocked into the shift. Travel to and from the caregiver's own home at the start and end of the live-in week is not reimbursed. Pre-employment drug screen is paid by the candidate. Background check is paid by the employer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Personal care Assist with showering, dressing, grooming, and oral care while protecting the consumer's dignity. Never leave the consumer unattended in the shower. Assist with toileting or incontinence care as needed. Assist with transfers, ambulation, and regular repositioning to reduce fall risk and protect skin. Meals Consumer eats independently. Feeding assistance is not part of this role. Plan and cook meals from the management grocery order. Select grocery items that work for the consumer's dietary needs and for your own dietary needs. Handle meal prep, cooking, plating, and kitchen cleanup. Personal grocery shopping for daily meals is not the default. Medication reminders Provide AM and PM medication reminders only. Do not administer medications. Report medication reminders given, missed doses, refusals, or possible side effects to the supervisor. Household support Light housekeeping in lived-in areas. Laundry and linen changes. Keep walkways, bathroom, and sleeping area safe and reasonably tidy. Transportation, companion care, and Senior Center activities Transport the consumer to and from regular activities at the local Senior Center, and to other approved appointments or outings, in your own vehicle. Cue the consumer through daily routines and group activities so they can follow instructions. Stay and participate with the consumer in Senior Center activities. Drop-off only or watching from the sidelines is not acceptable. Help the consumer follow activity instructions and stay engaged. Provide companion care using a calm, consistent routine, familiar cues, music, and gentle redirection. Supervise for safety. Watch for wandering, fall hazards, and unsafe items. Observation, communication, and handoff Follow the written care plan and household protocols. Observe and promptly report changes in condition, appetite, skin, mood, mobility, or behavior to the supervisor. Keep daily care notes as required. Complete a thorough Saturday 8:00 AM handoff with the incoming caregiver, including overnight events, groceries on hand, meals cooked, medication reminders given or missed, Senior Center participation, skin, mood, appointments, and any open issues. Maintain confidentiality. Report suspected abuse or neglect immediately per protocol. Do not handle the consumer's finances.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience providing dementia-related care. Late-stage Alzheimer's experience is strongly preferred. Immense patience, emotional steadiness, and sound common sense. Willingness to cue the consumer and participate in Senior Center and other activities with them, not only supervise. Ability to follow protocol and ask questions when the answer is not apparent. Able to plan and cook simple, reliable meals from a grocery order. Current Direct Care Worker (DCW) certification, or equivalent Pennsylvania-recognized competency (CNA, HHA, qualifying training program, or competency examination). You must maintain that credential while employed. Valid driver's license in your name. Vehicle registered in your name, with current registration and current auto insurance. You must be willing to transport the consumer to the Senior Center and other approved activities. Willingness to complete a pre-employment drug screening and a TB QuantiFERON (IGRA) blood test. Willingness to complete a Pennsylvania criminal background check (PA State Police / PATCH). FBI fingerprint check is also required if you have not lived in Pennsylvania for the 2 years immediately before hire. Two professional references who can speak to your caregiving work. Relatives are not acceptable references. Age 18 or older and legally authorized to work in the United States. Able to read, write, and communicate in English with the family, Senior Center staff, and the incoming caregiver.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior live-in or multi-day residential care experience. Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain before or immediately after hire. Experience cueing a person with dementia through group activities and multi-step instructions. Experience with incontinence care, transfers, and skin checks. Clean driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting. Assist with sit-to-stand and bed-to-chair transfers. Lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds with or without assistive devices, using safe body mechanics. Remain on site for a 7-day live-in week and respond to nighttime needs. Participate in Senior Center activities with the consumer.
SCREENING AND COMPLIANCE

START DATE
) Drug screening, paid by the candidate. TB QuantiFERON test. Documentation must be current (not more than 12 months old at start) and updated as required. Pennsylvania criminal history check, paid by the employer. FBI check if you have lived outside Pennsylvania within the prior 2 years. Proof of current DCW certification or equivalent competency. Proof of license, vehicle registration, and insurance. I-9 employment eligibility verification. Face-to-face interview.
