Immediate / ASAP About the Program The Intensive Autistic Support Elementary program provides a structured, nurturing, and highly individualized learning environment for elementary-aged students with autism and significant support needs . Students receive individualized instruction designed to build foundational communication, social, behavioral, functional, and academic skills while developing greater independence. The classroom can be highly active and occasionally intense. Elementary-aged students may communicate and express themselves in unique ways and may experience sensory, behavioral, or emotional challenges. Staff use consistent routines, visual supports, calming strategies, positive reinforcement, and individualized approaches to create a safe and encouraging environment where every student is supported and celebrated for their progress. As a PCA, you will be an important part of the student's educational team and will help create a positive classroom environment where young students feel safe, supported, respected, and encouraged to learn and grow. Responsibilities As a PCA, you may be responsible for: Providing one-on-one and/or classroom support to elementary-aged students with autism and other special needs . Assisting students with classroom activities, transitions, and daily routines. Supporting communication, social interaction, self-regulation, and functional skills. Helping implement individualized strategies developed by teachers and related-service professionals. Using visual supports, structured routines, and other classroom strategies to help students understand expectations. Supporting students during periods of sensory, emotional, or behavioral difficulty using approved calming and de-escalation strategies. Encouraging positive behaviors and reinforcing student progress. Assisting students with activities of daily living and personal care as needed. Supporting students during academic, recreational, and school activities. Helping students develop age-appropriate independence and functional skills. Helping maintain a safe, organized, and supportive classroom environment. Working closely with teachers, therapists, behavior professionals, and other members of the educational team. Maintaining student confidentiality and following all school and program policies. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience working with elementary-aged children , students with autism, or individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred but not required . Experience as a PCA, paraprofessional, teacher's assistant, behavioral health technician, caregiver, childcare provider, or similar role is a plus. Patient, compassionate, dependable, and willing to learn. Comfortable working in a busy and sometimes physically active elementary classroom. Ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive during challenging situations. Ability to follow individualized student plans and direction from classroom staff. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
