A Case Manager coordinates delivery of a range of social and health services to individuals and families. Assess client needs and work with agencies and institutions ensure clients get the help they need. Monitor client and work with other service providers as necessary to address client needs.
Onsite Position Overview MJ Strategies is seeking detail oriented FEMA Public Assistance Case Managers to support ongoing disaster recovery efforts in Gary, Indiana. This is an onsite position. Case Managers must be available to work in person in Gary, Indiana for the duration of the assignment or designated deployment period. Case Managers will support applicants through the FEMA Public Assistance grant process, including applicant eligibility review, documentation collection, project tracking, cost documentation, reimbursement support, and grant administration . The position will involve working directly with local governments, public agencies, nonprofit organizations, and other entities to help determine whether applicants meet FEMA Public Assistance eligibility requirements and to support eligible applicants throughout the recovery process. Candidates who do not currently live in the Gary area but are willing to temporarily relocate are encouraged to apply. For approved assignments, MJ Strategies will provide per diem. Responsibilities Review applicant information and supporting documentation to assist in determining eligibility for FEMA Public Assistance Evaluate applicant type, ownership, legal responsibility, facility use, and other documentation relevant to FEMA PA applicant eligibility Identify missing information or documentation needed to support applicant eligibility determinations Communicate directly with applicants to obtain eligibility, damage, cost, and supporting documentation Manage and track assigned FEMA Public Assistance applicant and project files Review and organize invoices, contracts, payroll records, force account labor records, equipment records, procurement documentation, photographs, proof of payment, insurance information, and other supporting documentation Identify missing or incomplete project documentation and coordinate follow up with applicants Assist with preparation and maintenance of FEMA Damage Inventories and supporting project documentation Assist with development and review of FEMA Public Assistance projects and Project Worksheets Enter, upload, organize, and track applicant and project information within FEMA Grants Portal and other project management systems Track Requests for Information, project milestones, deadlines, eligibility issues, and outstanding documentation Assist with reconciliation and review of disaster related costs and reimbursement documentation Maintain accurate case notes, eligibility records, project trackers, applicant files, and status reports Communicate regularly with applicants, project leadership, and other members of the disaster recovery team Review documentation for general FEMA Public Assistance eligibility and compliance requirements Identify potential eligibility concerns and elevate complex policy or eligibility issues to senior program staff Assist senior staff with applicant eligibility, project development, grant administration, reimbursement, and closeout activities Support additional FEMA Public Assistance program activities based on project needs Qualifications One or more years of experience in FEMA Public Assistance, disaster recovery, emergency management, grants management, government programs, construction administration, finance, or a related field preferred Familiarity with FEMA Public Assistance applicant and project eligibility requirements preferred Experience with FEMA Grants Portal strongly preferred Experience reviewing grant documentation, applicant eligibility documentation, invoices, contracts, payroll records, procurement documentation, or financial records preferred Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to manage multiple applicants, projects, and deadlines simultaneously Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to interpret program requirements and apply established eligibility criteria to applicant documentation Ability to work effectively onsite with applicants, project leadership, and other recovery team members Must be available to work onsite in Gary, Indiana Preferred FEMA Public Assistance Experience Experience with any of the following is preferred: FEMA Public Assistance applicant eligibility Public entities and eligible nonprofit organizations FEMA Public Assistance Categories A through G FEMA Grants Portal Damage Inventories Project Worksheets Requests for Information Force account labor and equipment documentation Contract and procurement documentation Cost eligibility and reconciliation FEMA reimbursement documentation State or federal grant programs FEMA Public Assistance project closeout Travel and Temporary Relocation This position requires onsite work in Gary, Indiana. Candidates who reside outside the Gary area and are willing to temporarily relocate for the assignment are encouraged to apply. For approved travel assignments, MJ Strategies will provide hotel accommodations and reimburse eligible mileage associated with project travel. Compensation Compensation is $32-$35 per hour , based on FEMA Public Assistance, disaster recovery, grants management, and related experience. This is a project based disaster recovery position. Work duration and hours may vary depending on program needs and disaster recovery workload.
