35 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., with a 30-minute unpaid lunch The Pike Township Trustee's Office is hiring an Emergency Assistance Caseworker to help residents seeking assistance during financial or personal crises. This position interviews applicants, reviews and verifies documentation, assesses eligibility under Indiana law and Township Assistance Guidelines, maintains case records, and connects residents with community resources. Applicants must speak English and at least one of the following languages: Spanish or Haitian Creole. Applicants who speak both Spanish and Haitian Creole are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities Interview residents to understand their circumstances and explain the Township Assistance application process. Review income, household expenses, benefits, employment information, and other supporting documents. Assess financial need and make documented recommendations regarding eligibility. Communicate with applicants about required documents, application status, and decisions. Maintain accurate and confidential electronic and paper case files. Refer residents to appropriate housing, food, healthcare, and other community resources. Assist with appointments, telephone calls, general office operations, and community outreach as needed. Required qualifications High school diploma or GED. Ability to speak English and either Spanish or Haitian Creole well enough to discuss assistance applications and requirements with residents. Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills. Ability to treat people experiencing difficult circumstances with empathy, professionalism, and fairness. Ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple cases, and document work accurately. Ability to use Microsoft Office and learn case management software and office procedures. Preferred qualifications Associate's or bachelor's degree in social work, human services, sociology, or a related field. Two or more years of experience in social services, casework, or a related human services setting. Experience assessing household budgets or financial need. Ability to speak both Spanish and Haitian Creole in addition to English. Work is primarily performed in an office with frequent interaction with the public. Occasional evening or weekend attendance is required for board meetings, community events, and town halls. Some duties may involve moving files or office supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
