General Function:

The Advocate provides direct services to victims of domestic violence. Direct service responsibilities include providing support, information, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence in a trauma-informed manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct domestic violence community outreach and education Assess client needs and eligibility for services. Provide support, advocacy, referral, and case management services to domestic violence survivors. Work with survivors to create, implement, monitor, and update individual safety plans. Assist survivors in emergencies to obtain shelter, financial assistance, and other basic needs Maintain accurate files, progress notes and data entry. Assist clients with obtaining legal assistance; interface with legal providers to guide victims through multiple systems Assist survivors with accessing other services (job training, counseling, housing, medical services, etc.) Maintain confidentiality of client information and shelter location. Be available for public speaking engagements when requested and be involved in program advocacy and networking for social change. Follow all policies as outlined in the Operations Manual for the Family Justice Center of Acadiana, the Faith House Policy & Procedure manual and Operations Manual, DCFS Quality Assurance Standards, Code of Ethics, and all state and federal regulations. Attend trainings and continuing education activities as assigned. Attend organization staff and team meetings as required and be prepared to give updates on activities. Be willing to fulfill any other duties assigned by immediate supervisor or Executive Director.

Qualifications:

Four-year college or university degree preferred, though relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience working with trauma survivors strongly preferred. Experience in crisis intervention preferred. Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
