THE POSITION

The Berks County Assistance Office is seeking Income Maintenance Caseworkers who are ready to serve the public with compassion and professionalism. This position allows you to support applicants and recipients by guiding them through important programs and services. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on determining eligibility for a variety of assistance programs while supporting customers with clear guidance and timely casework. After attending an 8-week Income Maintenance Standard Training Program (IMSTP), you will be completing your job duties in an office setting environment. As an Income Maintenance Caseworker, you will perform the following duties:
Eligibility Review:
Evaluate applications and determine eligibility for programs such as financial assistance,
Medicaid, SNAP, LIHEAP, Nursing Home Care, and Waivers Customer Interviews:
Conduct phone and in-person interviews to gather information and understand customer circumstances
Policy Application:
Interpret and apply state and federal regulations to ensure accurate case decisions
Data Entry:
Enter information into automated systems and perform manual calculations for case processing
Case Documentation:
Write clear and thorough case comments to record changes and document decisions
Deadline Management:
Complete all assigned work within required timeframes and established procedures
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch. This may change based on operational needs. Overtime and travel as operationally necessary
Telework:
This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Reading, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
Work Conditions:
Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with district offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,008.00 (before taxes).
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Four years of experience in interviewing or work requiring the analysis and interpretation of data; or A bachelor's degree; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
