Job Description

HCWC is seeking a part-time Substitute Shelter Advocate to respond to local hospitals and provide information and emotional support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, as well as provide coverage and comprehensive services to McCoy Family Violence Shelter and Marla's Place residents at night, on weekends, and on agency holidays when full-time and part-time Overnight Weekend Advocates have requested vacation or are out sick.
The Substitute Shelter Advocate will:
Maintain security and oversee facilities and client needs. Answer HCWC's 24-hour hotline overnight, on weekends, and on agency holidays Provide support and comprehensive services to residents at the McCoy's Family Violence shelter and transitional housing complex, Marla's Place. Provide immediate crisis intervention and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse as a part of the HEARTeam (Hospital Emergency Advocate Response Team) outside of normal business hours. Please note there is not a set work schedule for this position. The Substitute Shelter Advocates cover the shifts of the full-time and part-time Overnight/Weekend Advocates when they are not available and provide primary agency coverage on all agency holidays. Weeknight shifts are typically 5pm/6pm until 7am/9am the next morning and weekend shifts are usually 7am to 8pm. Weekend shifts are variable from 7am Saturday to 9am Monday. Holiday shifts are typically 7am until 6pm. Additional weekday/day hours may be available on occasion. It is our goal to hire a professional that understands the dynamics of family violence, genuinely cares about survivors of abuse, and understands the issues that survivors may face.
Preferred:
demonstrated expertise in family violence issues; bachelor's degree in social services or related field or a combination of education and experience in a similar agency. In addition, a successful candidate will be highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, be able to set appropriate boundaries, and maintain professional demeanor in a high stress environment. This is a PRN, non-exempt position. The starting hourly pay is $18/hour.
