About AADAP, Inc. The Asian American Drug Abuse Program (AADAP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to serving Asian Pacific Islanders and other underserved communities with substance abuse services throughout Los Angeles County. Programs and services are provided to all individuals regardless of race or ethnicity. Department Overview The Community Integrated Prevention (CIP) unit within the Prevention Department drives health equity, environmental advocacy, and community education around alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (ATOD) across the South Bay (SPA 8) region. Through youth and adult coalition building, policy advocacy, community outreach, and environmental prevention strategies, CIP empowers residents to create safer, healthier communities. Position Summary The Community Organizer supports AADAP's Community Integrated Prevention (CIP) program by mobilizing community members, youth and adult volunteers, and community partners around alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) prevention efforts throughout the South Bay (SPA 8) region. Reporting to the Prevention CIP Coordinator, this position conducts community outreach and education, supports youth and adult coalitions, facilitates presentations and trainings, participates in community assessments, develops educational and digital outreach content, and assists with local and regional prevention and advocacy initiatives. This is a temporary position expected to last a minimum of three (3) months, with the possibility of extension based on program needs. Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities Target Area Organizing Build, develop, and facilitate youth and adult community coalitions, including recruiting members, facilitating meetings and trainings, maintaining member engagement, and developing community leadership. Organize and implement community-based prevention activities designed to engage new partners and expand youth and adult volunteer participation. Develop and deliver alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) prevention and advocacy presentations, workshops, trainings, and educational activities for community members and partner organizations. Recruit, train, guide, and engage youth and adult volunteers and coalition members participating in prevention, health, wellness, and community advocacy initiatives. Provide day-to-day guidance and direction to Outreach Workers and volunteers during assigned outreach, coalition, and community activities. Mobilize community stakeholders, residents, city partners, and regional organizations around ATOD prevention, education, and community advocacy efforts. Develop relationships and partnerships with community-based organizations, residents, public agencies, decision-makers, and other stakeholders to strengthen coalition participation and advance prevention initiatives. Conduct comprehensive community assessments within assigned target areas throughout the South Bay (SPA 8) region. Educate and build awareness around ATOD-related community issues with city, county, and state decision-makers and city staff. Support implementation of Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) strategies and action plans in coordination with the CIP team and community partners. Develop creative educational and outreach content, including social media posts/reels, flyers, presentations, virtual training materials, videos, podcasts, and other media. Provide recommendations regarding emerging community needs, trends, issues, and opportunities relevant to program and contract goals. Transport outreach supplies, media materials, and equipment to and from community sites using a personal vehicle. County-Wide Organizing Participate in county-based roundtables, regional task forces, coalition meetings, and other prevention-focused collaborative efforts. Support regional and county-wide ATOD prevention, education, and advocacy initiatives. Provide support and technical assistance to community organizing partners and collaborative groups as assigned. Participate in community advocacy and education surrounding local, state, and federal policy decisions impacting prevention efforts. Administrative Support Comply with applicable city, county, state, and federal contractual requirements. Maintain accurate documentation of community organizing activities, outreach efforts, coalition participation, and program evaluation activities. Complete required billing reports, activity documentation, and other administrative tracking requirements accurately and on time. Support contract deliverables and program activities consistent with assigned prevention goals. Department & Agency Attend required department, unit, and agency-sponsored meetings, trainings, and events. Represent AADAP professionally at community meetings, forums, conferences, outreach events, and other local, state, or regional activities. Collaborate effectively with CIP staff, community partners, volunteers, and other AADAP programs. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications & Requirements Minimum Qualifications At least one (1) year of experience in community organizing, community outreach, coalition building, prevention programming, advocacy, public health, health education, or other community-based work (paid or unpaid). Experience engaging and building relationships with diverse community members, volunteers, organizations, or community partners. Comfortable taking initiative, helping coordinate community activities, and providing guidance and support to Outreach Workers and volunteers in the field. Comfortable facilitating or co-facilitating meetings, presentations, trainings, or community discussions. Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills. Digital literacy, including working knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Slides) and digital communication tools. Valid California Driver's License, active personal vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation for local field travel. Employment contingent upon successful background check clearance and proof of a negative TB test within seven (7) days of hire. U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident; proof of work eligibility required upon hire. Nice to Have Experience building, supporting, or participating in youth or adult community coalitions. Experience with alcohol and other drug prevention, behavioral health, public health, health equity, or other community wellness initiatives. Knowledge of or connection to communities in the South Bay (SPA 8) region. Experience supporting grant- or contract-funded community programs, including documentation, reporting, compliance, or evaluation activities. Experience developing digital or educational content using Canva or other visual tools (e.g., social media graphics, reels, flyers, presentations, videos, podcasts). Bachelor's degree in public health, social sciences, community development, behavioral health, communications, or another related field. Bilingual or bicultural capabilities in Los Angeles County threshold languages (e.g., Spanish, Tagalog, Korean, Samoan, Tongan, Hawaiian, or other AAPI languages); Spanish fluency strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Moderate Duty. Requires standing or walking for extended periods and may include bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, and working on irregular surfaces. The position involves transporting, setting up, moving, and organizing outreach supplies and media equipment generally weighing 10-25 lbs., with occasional lifting of more than 25 lbs.
