SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Elders Department Director, the Kiikajik Elders Outreach Coordinator plans, coordinates, and delivers programs, services, activities, transportation assistance, cultural programming, wellness initiatives, and community outreach efforts that enhance the quality of life, independence, health, and well-being of Tribal Elders. The coordinator serves as a primary point of contact for Elders and promotes meaningful engagement through culturally appropriate activities and services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Coordinate and implement elder programs, activities, events, and services in accordance with Tribal policies and departmental goals. Act in the capacity of the Elder Program recreation consultant and arrange recreational activities and travel as directed by the Elders Department Director. Coordinate transportation services for Tribal Elders, including scheduling drivers, transportation routes, trip records, and accommodations for appointments, cultural events, and community activities. Plan, organize, and facilitate elder luncheon programs, including healthy menu planning, participant outreach, guest speakers, volunteers, games and activities. Coordinate local and out-of-area outings, educational trips, cultural excursions, and recreational activities while ensuring participant safety and program compliance. Develop monthly activity calendars that include wellness, social, educational, cultural, and intergenerational activities. Promote Anishinaabe culture through language preservation, storytelling, traditional crafts, seasonal teachings, and cultural knowledge-sharing activities. Assist Elders in accessing Tribal, federal, state, and local resources and services. Maintain attendance records, transportation logs, activity reports, incident reports, and program documentation. Recruit and coordinate volunteers, presenters, and community partners. Monitoring participant needs and communicates concerns to the Director. Attend meetings, training sessions, and community events as assigned. Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate degree in human services, social work, gerontology, community health, recreation, tribal administration, or a related field preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience coordinating activities, transportation services, community outreach programs, or services for Elders, seniors, or underserved populations preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of aging-related issues, dementia awareness, senior services, and community resources. Ability to organize group activities, transportation schedules, special events, and cultural programming. Ability to communicate effectively and work respectfully with Tribal Elders, families, community partners, healthcare providers, and service agencies. Knowledge of Anishinaabe culture, traditions, customs, and Tribal community values preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and database or recordkeeping systems. Ability to prepare reports, maintain electronic records, create flyers and program materials, manage email communications, and utilize technology to support program operations. Ability to use social media and electronic communication tools to promote programs, engage participants, and increase awareness of services available to Tribal Elders. Ability to learn and utilize Tribal software systems, scheduling platforms, transportation tracking systems, and other technologies necessary to support departmental operations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by LTBB's carrier. Must obtain a chauffer's license within 30 days of hire. CPR and First Aid certification within six months of hire. Elder abuse recognition and mandatory reporting training preferred. Dementia, Alzheimer's disease, geriatric care, or aging services training preferred. Cultural competency, traditional knowledge, or Anishinaabe cultural program facilitation training preferred.
COMMENTS
Indian preference will apply (Preference will be given to qualified Native American applicants in accordance with the LTBB Indian Preference Statute). Individuals must pass a thorough background investigation. Must have a good work history with LTBB, if previously employed by the Tribe. Knowledge of Anishinaabemowin language and culture a plus. Work is performed in office, community, and outdoor settings. Position requires occasional travel, coordination of transportation, accompanying Elders to activities and events, and occasional evening or weekend work.

On Sept. 21, 1994, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB) was federally reaffirmed with the signing of Public Law 103-324. The Tribe is governed by a nine-member Tribal Council.
