The Community Outreach Coordinator connects pet owners in our community with the resources, services, and education they need to keep their pets healthy, happy, and safely in their homes. This position serves as a welcoming and compassionate point of contact for community members seeking assistance with pet care. The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for coordinating public spay and neuter surgeries, assisting with public vaccination clinics, overseeing the pet food pantry, and developing meaningful relationships with community members and businesses as needed to support these programs and resources. The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, dependable, and passionate about helping people and pets. This position plays an important role in preventing pet surrender and helping families overcome barriers to veterinary care and basic pet necessities.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesCommunity Spay & Neuter Services:
Schedule and coordinate spay and neuter surgeries for owned pets in the community. Communicate with pet owners regarding appointments, eligibility, pre-surgical instructions, and follow-up care. Maintain accurate records of scheduled surgeries, client information, and outcomes. Coordinate scheduling and logistics with shelter medical staff. Identify additional resources for families experiencing barriers to veterinary care.
Public Vaccine Clinics:
Assist with planning and scheduling of public vaccination clinics. Educate pet owners about routine vaccinations, preventative care, and other basic health needs. Maintain accurate records and ensure required documentation is complete for follow-up communications. Help promote upcoming clinics through community outreach, marketing, and community partnerships.
Pet Food Pantry:
Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the shelter's pet food pantry. Maintain appropriate inventory levels of pet food and supplies. Supervise volunteers in supply organization and distribution. Maintain accurate records of pantry usage and community members served. Develop relationships with grocery stores, pet supply businesses, manufacturers, community organizations, and donors to secure ongoing food and supply donations. Identify opportunities to expand the pantry's reach to underserved members of the community.
Community Engagement:
Build positive, trusting relationships with pet owners and community members. Represent the shelter at community events, outreach programs, educational events, and partner activities when applicable Help identify community needs and develop programs that address barriers to keeping pets healthy and safely in their homes. Respond to community inquiries in a timely, professional, and compassionate manner. Help reduce barriers that can lead to pet surrender by connecting families with appropriate resources.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate and confidential program records and databases. Track program participation, services provided, and community members served. Prepare regular reports regarding outreach activities, clinic participation, food pantry distribution, and program outcomes. Assist with program budgets, purchasing, inventory, and expense tracking as assigned. Follow all shelter policies, procedures, safety protocols, and applicable laws and regulations. Maintain professional communication with staff, volunteers, community members, and external partners. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with the public in a customer service, nonprofit, animal welfare, healthcare, or community service environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate records. Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds and circumstances. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Commitment to the mission of animal welfare and keeping pets and families together. Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift as needed to perform job duties. Ability to lift and carry bags of pet food and supplies, potentially up to 60 pounds. Ability to work around dogs, cats, and other animals. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and community events as needed. Pay:
