Job Description
Community Engagement Coordinator Mitchell County Animal Rescue (MCAR) Full-Time Position Mitchell County Animal Rescue is seeking an energetic, organized, people-oriented Community Engagement Coordinator to help connect our animals, volunteers, supporters, and community. This is not a sit-behind-a-desk-all-day position. Animal sheltering is busy, unpredictable, rewarding, occasionally messy, and rarely boring. The right person will genuinely enjoy both animals and people , be comfortable changing gears quickly, and thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes frenetic environment. Position Overview The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, training, scheduling, supporting, and retaining MCAR volunteers while helping strengthen the shelter's connection with the community. This position works closely with shelter staff, fosters, adopters, volunteers, community organizations, and members of the public. The coordinator will also assist with social media, special events, outreach programs, and day-to-day shelter operations. Like everyone on the MCAR team, the Community Engagement Coordinator must be willing to pitch in wherever needed—including helping with animals and cleaning. Primary Responsibilities Volunteer Management Recruit, welcome, orient, train, and support shelter volunteers. Coordinate volunteer schedules and opportunities. Match volunteers with appropriate jobs based on their interests, abilities, and shelter needs. Maintain accurate volunteer records and track participation. Communicate regularly with volunteers about opportunities, events, policies, and shelter needs. Help develop a positive, welcoming volunteer culture. Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions. Help identify and resolve volunteer concerns in a professional and respectful manner. Coordinate volunteers for special events, adoption promotions, community programs, and other MCAR activities. Community Engagement & Outreach Serve as a friendly and professional representative of MCAR in the community. Build relationships with local businesses, organizations, schools, civic groups, and community partners. Assist with adoption events, fundraising events, volunteer activities, educational programs, and outreach efforts. Help develop new ways for community members to become involved with MCAR. Assist with programs designed to increase adoptions, fostering, volunteering, and community support. Social Media & Communications Assist with creating engaging social media content featuring adoptable animals, volunteers, events, programs, and shelter needs. Take photographs and short videos when needed. Help respond appropriately to social media messages and community inquiries. Promote volunteer opportunities, events, adoption campaigns, and other MCAR programs. Maintain a positive, compassionate, and professional public voice for the organization. Shelter Support Assist staff with animal handling and daily shelter activities as needed. Help maintain clean, safe, welcoming public and volunteer areas. Perform cleaning and sanitation duties as needed. Assist during especially busy intake, adoption, event, or emergency situations. Be willing to jump in and help when priorities suddenly change—which they frequently do in animal rescue.
