On-site / Non-Remote About Hearts for the Homeless Hearts for the Homeless is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and organized Outreach Assistant to support our Outreach Ministry and help provide services to individuals and families in our community. This position will assist with the day-to-day operations of our Outreach programs, including the Clothing Closet, volunteer coordination, client services, donations, organization of supplies, and other Outreach activities. The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, is comfortable serving individuals from diverse backgrounds, and can balance customer service with hands-on operational responsibilities. Schedule This is a part-time, day-shift position of approximately 25-30 hours per week. Saturday availability is required. The Outreach Assistant will serve as the primary staff member supporting the Clothing Closet, which is open to the public on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. On other scheduled weekdays, the Outreach Assistant will assist with additional Outreach activities, client services, volunteer support, donations, special events, and other program needs. Responsibilities Assist with the daily operations of Outreach programs and services. Help coordinate and support volunteers, including providing direction and ensuring appropriate coverage. Assist with the operation of the Clothing Closet during public hours. Provide welcoming, respectful, and professional customer service to clients, guests, volunteers, donors, and community members. Assist clients with accessing available resources and services. Receive, organize, sort, and distribute donations and supplies. Maintain an organized, clean, and welcoming Outreach environment. Assist with setting up and preparing areas for Outreach activities and events. Help monitor inventory and communicate supply needs to the Outreach Program Manager. Complete required forms, records, statistics, and other documentation accurately. Assist with special events, community activities, and Outreach initiatives. Follow all organizational safety, sanitation, and service standards. Maintain confidentiality and treat all individuals with dignity and respect. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous experience in customer service, human services, nonprofit work, ministry, volunteer coordination, or a related field is helpful but not required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Dependable, professional, and able to work in a fast-paced, community-focused environment. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace. Valid driver's license is preferred but not required. Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position. The Outreach Assistant may be required to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull as part of daily operations. The position may involve lifting items weighing up to approximately 35 pounds at waist height and working both indoors and outdoors as needed. Why Join Hearts for the Homeless?
