About the Role The Finger Lakes Boating Museum (FLBM) is seeking a Museum Programs & Outreach Specialist to support the Museum's educational programs, special events, community outreach and visitor experience. Working closely with the Executive Director, this position coordinates museum programs and workshops, supports youth education and school field trips, assists with special events and community activities, and helps create engaging content for Museum outreach and promotion. The role also provides visitor services support and helps ensure that guests have an informative, welcoming and enjoyable experience. Areas of Responsibility Museum Programs & Events:
Coordinate, develop and support workshops, lectures, special events and community programs, including planning, setup, registration, staffing, materials and program delivery.
Youth & Museum Education:
Direct school field trips, educational activities, summer day camp and youth programs, including outreach to schools, program logistics, volunteer coordination and ongoing program improvement.
Community Outreach:
Develop and deliver activities for the community and coordinate the Museum's participation in festivals, shows and off-site events.
Visitor Experience:
Provide high-quality visitor services, including admissions, guest orientation, point-of-sale transactions and support for weekend programs and rentals.
Program Promotion & Content:
Assist with the creation of multimedia and promotional materials that support Museum programs, education, outreach and collection interpretation.
Volunteer Coordination:
Help recruit, schedule and support volunteers involved in programs, events and educational activities.
On-Water Programs:
Periodically support registration and logistics for public tours, charters and specialty programs aboard The Pat II. Qualifications The successful candidate will have: A high school diploma or equivalent. An associate degree or equivalent experience in education, hospitality, communications, creative writing, museum studies or a related field is preferred. Customer service or client engagement experience; experience coordinating or leading group activities is preferred. Experience working effectively as part of a team through employment, school or volunteer activities. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with visitors, educators, volunteers and community partners. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and move effectively between different responsibilities. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Museum staff, volunteers and the public. Point-of-sale experience is preferred. Working Environment/Physical Demands Work in Museum galleries and office areas as well as occasional outdoor and community-based activities. Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 30 pounds. Reliable transportation to and from Hammondsport is required. Occasional use of a personal vehicle for off-site Museum activities may also be necessary, with mileage reimbursement provided. About the Museum The Finger Lakes Boating Museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of boatbuilding and boating throughout New York's Finger Lakes Region. Founded in 1997 and located in Hammondsport since 2014, the Museum is home to more than 100 historic boats and thousands of related artifacts. Pay:
$16.50 - $17.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 20.0 per week
