September 21, 2026 Position Summary The Liturgy Coordinator serves a multi-church, multi-lingual (English/Spanish/French and Burmese) worshiping community by leading and coordinating the liturgical life of the parish in accordance with the Roman Catholic tradition and the norms of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. This individual works closely with the pastor, Liturgy Committee, Music Coordinator, and liturgical ministers to ensure that all liturgical celebrations are prayerful, reverent, and in full conformity with the Church's liturgical principles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Liturgy:
Coordinate preparation for and evaluation of all liturgical celebrations (Sundays, weekday Masses, holy days, weddings, funerals, sacramental liturgies, seasonal liturgies, etc.). Collaborate with the pastor, parochial vicars, Liturgy Committee, and Pastoral Commission to ensure culturally respectful and unified liturgical practices in which liturgical seasons are observed with appropriate decor, music, and ritual. Provide liturgical formation and training for liturgical ministers (lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, altar servers, hospitality ministers, sacristans, etc.) in both English and other languages as is possible for the languages worshiping in the pastorate. Develop liturgical planning resources and calendars in English and other languages as needed and available. Serve as a resource to teaching staff and leadership of the school system to prepare for liturgies and coordinate classroom activities and formation as needed. Ensure that all liturgical practices are celebrated with reverence and in accordance with church documents and archdiocesan norms.
Administrative:
Develop and manage the liturgy budget in coordination with the pastor and finance council. Maintain liturgical supplies. Attend staff meetings and collaborate with other ministries to integrate liturgy into the broader pastoral life of the parish. Stay informed on developments in liturgical practice within the Church. Qualifications Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with a deep understanding of and love for the Church's liturgy. Bachelor's degree or higher in Liturgical Studies, Theology, or a related field (preferred). Knowledge of a broad repertoire of sacred music, including traditional and contemporary styles. Strong organizational, pastoral, and communication skills. Familiarity with liturgical documents (e.g., GIRM, Sing to the Lord, Sacrosanctum Concilium) as necessary to plan music for liturgies. Proficiency in English and preferably bi-lingual with competency in or readiness to learn about other cultural liturgical expressions. Basic computer skills with knowledge and experience with Google platform and one or more parish ministry software programs and the ability to gain proficiency as needed. Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and parishioners. Working Conditions Evening and weekend hours required, especially for liturgical celebrations. Work is primarily indoors, in church and office settings. Occasional lifting of music equipment or supplies may be required.
