A Director of Religious Education directs educational programs and activities for a denominational group such as a church or synagogue. Coordinates the work of volunteer religious education teachers and plans classes and curriculum designed to introduce children and adults to the beliefs and practices of the congregation or denomination.

$25.00 per hour Position Summary The Director of Children's Ministry provides leadership for the church's ministry with children and their families, helping foster spiritual growth, meaningful relationships, and active participation in the life of Broadway Christian Church. This position oversees children's faith formation programs, equips volunteers, and collaborates with church staff to create engaging and welcoming opportunities for children from preschool through fifth grade.

Associate Pastor Primary Responsibilities Program Leadership Plan, coordinate, and oversee children's ministry programming, including: Sunday School (ages 3 through 5th grade); Children's Church; Children's participation in worship services,;Vacation Bible School; Seasonal events such as Blessing of the Backpacks, Trunk or Treat, Advent and Christmas programming, and other church-wide celebrations; Rites of Passage, including baby dedications, Bible presentations, and baptism mentoring. Select, develop, and maintain age-appropriate curriculum and educational resources. Volunteer Leadership Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers for children's ministry programs. Ensure safe ministry practices, including maintaining appropriate volunteer-to-child ratios and coordinating with the Church Administrator to complete required background checks. Encourage, equip, and support volunteers in their ministry with children. Communication and Collaboration Work collaboratively with pastors, staff, the Children's Ministry Team, and volunteers. Attend the weekly church staff meeting on Mondays at 1:00 p.m. Meet with the Children's Ministry Team as needed, generally once each month. Partner with the Communications Coordinator to promote children's ministry programs and events through the church website, newsletters, and social media. Serve as an advocate for children and families within the broader ministry of the church. Administration Maintain children's ministry records, supplies, and classroom organization. Assist with planning and managing the children's ministry budget. Build meaningful relationships with children and families through a welcoming, caring, and pastoral presence. Qualifications Experience working with children in a church, educational, nonprofit, or related setting. Knowledge of child development and Christian faith formation. Demonstrated ability to recruit, organize, and support volunteers. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Experience working with neurodivergent children and creating inclusive, supportive environments is a significant asset and strongly preferred. Familiarity with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is preferred, or a willingness to learn about the denomination and its values. Regular availability is expected for:
Sunday mornings (approximately 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.) Weekly staff meetings on Mondays at 1:00 p.m.
Monthly Children and Youth Committee Meeting:
First Wednesday of the Month 5-7pm Occasional evenings and weekends for special events, planning meetings, Wednesday programming in Lent and Advent, and seasonal family nights Responsibilities may be adjusted based on the agreed-upon weekly schedule and the seasonal needs of the ministry.
