Who We Are The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Santa Monicais a vibrant home for liberal religion on the Westside of Los Angeles. Each week, about 150 adults and children attend our Sunday worship services, including music and religious education programming. Our congregation strives to be an agent of transformation, central in individual people's lives and in the community at large. We desire to reflect our larger community and its diversity and to be a place where people feel welcome, well connected, valued, and loved. Our religious education program has been regrowing post-pandemic. We offer age differentiated children's Sunday morning programming again during the congregational year (September - June) and often move to an all-ages format during the summer. We have a small youth program and a long history of offering Our Whole Lives for many age groups. Last year we began offering monthly all ages Saturday service/justice activities. Children begin Sundays in the worship services before heading to RE programming after the Time for All Ages. We offer an all ages worship service approximately once a month. We have a robust lifespan (adult) RE program. Most RE programming happens in the Cottage, which has several classrooms, a nursery, and an outdoor play area. In addition, in the sanctuary we have a children's area that the DMRE is responsible for. Who We Seek The Director of Multigenerational Religious Education (DMRE) is the senior staff member responsible for the leadership, planning, implementation, and evaluation of spiritual and faith development programming for children, youth, adults, and families. The DMRE is expected to affirm the principles, values, and policies of UUSM and abide by the LREDA Code of Professional Conduct. We are particularly interested in candidates with training in child development and experience working in formal or informal learning environments. Work Schedule Average 20 - 30 hours per week (see introduction above) to include Sunday mornings with one Sunday morning away per month (DMRE is responsible for ensuring appropriate coverage). The remainder of the time will be split between regular office hours and working from home if desired (hours to be coordinated with the minister), events, attendance at meetings, and trainings. Some limited travel may be required. Essential Responsibilities (to be adjusted if the candidate prefers less than 3/4 time) Collaborate with the minister, staff, the Children and Youth Religious Education Committee (CYRE), and volunteers to develop and implement lifespan faith formation programs that promote UUSM's mission. Develop and collaborate with teams or task forces needed to carry out lifespan faith formation at UUSM. With volunteers and other staff, develop, lead, and manage procedures and processes to provide educational opportunities and childcare for children and youth throughout the congregation. Develop, organize and administer programs for children (particularly Sunday RE classes) and youth (particularly youth activities, Our Whole Lives, and Coming of Age), including planning, ongoing evaluation, volunteer management (recruiting, orienting, supervising), coordinating materials, and registration. Support family engagement. Work with CYRE and other volunteers and staff to develop and implement approximately monthly multigenerational offerings that involve direct experience in nurturing and honoring the land, advocating or volunteering for social and racial justice, fostering relationships, making music, and creating meaning. Work with volunteers to implement programs for adults to explore topics such as spirituality, UU principles, living our faith, and background to becoming a member. Participate in the UUSM Camp deBenneville Pines Family Weekend, helping organize offerings with volunteers. Collaborate with the minister, worship associates, and other participants to develop and co-lead all ages worship services, stories/times for all ages, rites of passage for children and youth, and other aspects of the weekly worship service as requested by the minister. Recruit, supervise, and support other paid childcare/religious education staff and volunteers, including ensuring compliance with safer congregations requirements. Staff or arrange for other appropriate childcare for congregational events. Lead volunteer recognition efforts for RE volunteers. Work closely and collaboratively with staff and volunteers to communicate UUSM's faith formation opportunities internally and externally, as well as to build partnerships within the congregation and in the wider community. Participate actively in ongoing professional development through reflective reading, membership in the Liberal Religious Educators Association (LREDA), and participation in related online, regional, and national workshops and meetings.
