Volunteer Education Teachers Candidate Profile The Bull Run Unitarian Universalists Congregation (BRUU) invites a confident and dynamic leader to work with people of all ages in building our religious education program. We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic individual who can help co-create a multi-generational environment of love, leadership, and self-awareness, embracing Unitarian Universalist ethics and values. The Director of Religious Education (DRE) provides professional leadership, initiative, and support of the life-span faith formation program in clear alignment with the congregation's mission and vision. The person chosen for this position will work with a small team of professional staff, lay leaders and volunteers congregation-wide to deliver faith formation programs and services to Preschool-12th grade students. Essential Functions Co-create a multi-generational environment of love, leadership, and self-awareness, embracing Unitarian Universalist ethics and values. Collaborate with the Religious Education Council (REC) on curriculum development, strategic goals and volunteer coordination. Supervise Sunday morning RE programs (core hours when not on PTO) Recruit, train, and support educational volunteers. Direct the overarching education program tailored for children and youth. Administer the education program day-to-day, including managing budgets, registration, calendars, and curricula. Maintain best practices for safer congregations. Other Responsibilities Attend weekly staff meetings Meet monthly with the Religious Education Council. Communicate program activities regularly to the congregation. Minimum Qualifications Pass a background check. Maintain a valid CPR/AED/First Aid certification. 3-5 years of relevant experience working with children of different ages, learning styles, abilities, and needs. Demonstrated knowledge of human development and faith formation, alongside a basic knowledge of, or appreciation for, UU history, polity, and theology. Appreciation and respect for diversity, with a proven ability to work collaboratively with other stakeholders such as staff and congregants. Ability to instruct volunteers in supportive teaching procedures and materials as well as appropriate classroom behavioral interventions.
