BREASTFEEDING PEER COUNSELOR
Position Description:
The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor acts as a liaison between the WIC department and pregnant/new mothers. This position is designed to promote breastfeeding, educate the public on the benefits of breastfeeding, and make any misconception understood. Essential functions of the position are: Provides basic breastfeeding information and support to new mothers, including education them about the benefits of breastfeeding, overcoming common barriers, and getting a good start with breastfeeding Provides factual information to new moms regarding breastfeeding. Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers by telephone, home visits, and/or hospital visits. Ability to work outside of normal office hours to accommodate new/struggling mothers Maintains accurate records Establish, attend, and assist with prenatal classes and support groups Attends applicable training for BFPC May assists WIC staff withBreastfeeding Peer Counseling Qualifications:
Preferred experience with breastfeeding within the last five yearsTravel:
BFPC may be required to travel to patients' houses, local hospitals, and local community fairsEmployment Status:
