Part-Time / Contract About the Role We are seeking an experienced and thoughtful High School Admissions Counselor to support middle school students and their families throughout the U.S. private and independent high school application process. The ideal candidate has professional experience in school admissions, secondary school counseling, or a closely related field and is familiar with the admissions process at competitive U.S. independent schools. This role is primarily advisory. The counselor will help students and families make informed decisions, organize and strengthen their applications, and prepare effectively for each stage of the admissions process—from school selection and application planning to essays and interviews. Most meetings may be conducted remotely. However, we prefer candidates located in Massachusetts or New Hampshire, particularly the Greater Boston area , who are available for occasional in-person meetings when appropriate. Key Responsibilities Review students' profiles, school lists, and overall application plans, and provide practical and individualized admissions guidance. Guide students in organizing and preparing application materials, including reviewing essays and providing constructive feedback while preserving each student's authentic voice. Help students prepare for admissions interviews through mock interviews, coaching, and actionable feedback. Advise students and families on application strategy, timelines, and important decisions throughout the admissions process. Communicate with students, families, and our advising team as needed to support the timely completion of applications.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree or higher. At least two years of professional experience in U.S. school admissions, independent school admissions, secondary school counseling, educational advising, or a closely related field. Strong understanding of the U.S. secondary school admissions process. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong ability to evaluate student profiles and provide thoughtful, individualized recommendations. Excellent interpersonal skills, with a high level of patience, empathy, professionalism, and commitment to students . Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in a remote or hybrid environment.
Preferred:
Admissions or counseling experience at a highly selective U.S. independent or boarding school . Familiarity with competitive independent schools in New England , particularly Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Experience advising international students or students from international educational backgrounds . Experience working with families navigating the U.S. private or boarding school admissions process. What We Are Looking For We are particularly interested in someone who combines admissions expertise with a student-centered approach. A successful counselor should be able to assess an application strategically while also understanding that middle school students need encouragement, patience, and age-appropriate guidance. Work Arrangement This position is remote-friendly , and most advising sessions can be conducted virtually. Candidates located in the Greater Boston area, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire are strongly preferred, as occasional in-person meetings with students or team members may be requested. Scheduling may vary depending on student needs and application deadlines, with greater activity during the fall and winter admissions season.
Pay:
From $45.00 per hour Expected hours: No more than 5.0 per week
