The Academic Specialist (Bilingual) collaborates with the Housing Operations Staff and Case Managers, Housing Navigation in an approach that is client-centered, strengths based, and trauma informed with the goal of connecting families to academic services to promote educational success. The Academic Specialist (Bilingual) serves as an advocate for students through the development of student-centered assessments and academic service plans. The Academic Specialist (Bilingual) serves as a liaison between parents and school districts and schools to navigate educational services and resources, including referral to appropriate school programs and support services. Target families who are residents of the Family Support Center are identified and referred to the Academic Specialist (Bilingual) by Housing Operations Staff and Case Managers, Housing Navigation. The Academic Specialist (Bilingual) works with the internal network and external educational services, maintains professional relationships, and communicates effectively with all school districts. Essential Functions 1. Support the academic success of students and families in varying levels of engagement based on level of need in collaboration with the family's Housing Operations Staff and Case Manager, Housing Navigation. 2. Provide academic case management services for all referred families with children aged K-12. 3. Conduct screening, assessment, and service planning with participants in all academic domains including enrollment, transportation, technology accessibility, and any academic support needs. 4. Perform Internal and external outreach and marketing of services, maintain an academic bulletin board to keep participants updated regarding school holidays, events, and important dates. 5. Divert, link, or schedule families with the appropriate school resources and/or services. 6. Practice assertive and trauma informed engagement with families through persistent and creative activities to motivate, encourage participation, and promote follow-through. 7. Use foundations of Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) to engage with and educate families. 8. Participate in case consultations with internal programs to promote wrap around services for participant's academic success. 9. Act as liaison, coordinator, and advocate between Youth and Family Services, Santa Rosa City Schools (SRCS) and the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE). 10. Maintain up-to-date and thorough case records with minimal documentation errors and/or corrective actions, document service encounters as required; input data in a timely manner in DataLink and/or Smartsheets. 11. Respond to calls, emails, update requests and other inquiries in a professional and timely manner. 12. Follow all best practices standards of care and Catholic Charities' Policies and Procedures, including Release of Information, informed consent, confidentiality, and file documentation. 13. Complete required trainings and certifications within the established time period. 14. Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of Catholic Charities in the performance of all essential job functions and responsibilities.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required 1. Associate's degree in an area of academic support, two years' experience providing services to students and families in schools or academic support programs required; an additional two to four years' experience providing services for youth and/or families in schools may substitute for an associate's degree. Bachelor's degree and experience with Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) educational services preferred. 2. Bilingual (English/Spanish), passing score on the Catholic Charities' test of oral and written Spanish fluency required. 3. Trained in Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) or willingness to be trained upon hire. 4. Demonstrated understanding of causes of homelessness, experience working within social services and familiarity with community resources. Knowledge of Housing First principles and methods preferred. 5. Knowledge and understanding of relevant community resources, trauma-informed care oriented toward individual/family resilience. 6. Ability to work under pressure with a positive, solution-oriented approach. 7. Computer literacy required, including experience with Microsoft 365 Suite, including Excel. 8. Strong written and verbal communication; organization, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills. 9. Excellent interpersonal skills, cooperative, friendly, proactive, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with clients and other employees to ensure a positive and constructive environment within the program or department and throughout the Agency. 10. Passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Catholic Charities and its clients. 11. Valid driver license and at least state required minimum of automobile insurance, clear DMV driving record and ability to provide own transportation. Must be willing and able to travel between agency sites. 12. Must pass DOJ background clearance (fingerprinting) in accordance with the Diocese of Santa Rosa's policies prior to start of employment.
