Description The Children and Youth Program Coordinator will nurture spiritual exploration and community engagement among children and youth through thoughtful programming, volunteer support, and collaboration with staff and stakeholders. This position focuses on assisting with overall Children and Youth program logistics and communication, supporting Youth Advisors and events, and providing primary staff support for the Mind Room (Deeper Discussion). Time Requirement Average 8 hours per week over a 12-month period. Weekly hours may vary, with some weeks requiring more or fewer hours depending on program needs. Compensation $23.00- 25.00/hour to start Status Nonexempt, part time Physical requirements and working conditions Must be available to work Sundays, occasional Saturdays and/or weekday evenings. Ideally some daytime flexibility for weekly or bi-weekly supervisor meetings. This position will work at both the Fellowship as well as various places in the community, and must be able to provide their own transportation to those settings. Essential Functions Sunday Morning Group Facilitator Functions - Mind (Deeper Discussion) Room Serve as the primary staff point for the Mind (Deeper Discussion) Room, providing facilitation, preparation, or volunteer support as appropriate depending on staffing and volunteer capacity. When a volunteer facilitator is present and well-established, support continuity and preparation rather than serving as the primary facilitator. When the Director of Children and Youth Programming is present on Sunday mornings, provide flexible, needs-based support across Children & Youth spaces, which may include floating between rooms, supporting Youth Advisors, or assisting with nursery needs as coordinated with the Director. When the Director is not present, serve as the on-site operational staff point for Children & Youth programming, providing continuity and real-time support within established plans. Collaborate with volunteers and staff to support a safe, welcoming, and well-functioning Sunday morning experience. Children and Youth Program Functions - General Programmatic Support Support coordination of Children & Youth volunteers, including scheduling, reminders, and basic communication for Sunday and program-based needs. Assist with volunteer onboarding logistics (orientation materials, background check tracking, role clarity), in collaboration with the Director. Help maintain clear systems that support volunteer engagement and sustainability. Serve as a consistent point of contact for volunteers for coordination and communication, helping ensure continuity and care. Provide limited coordination support for nursery volunteers and Sunday nursery coverage, in collaboration with the Director.unteer support allows. Senior Youth (High School Age) Programs Provide advisory support to volunteer Youth Advisors, assisting with recruitment and occasional training sessions. Host Youth Advisor meetings (typically monthly or less) and collaborate with Youth Advisors to support planning and problem-solving for weekly Youth Group activities when additional staff support is needed. Assist in planning seasonal youth-focused events (1-3 annually) and support the Youth Service at the end of the program year. Co-create Bridging and Youth Services with youth and the Director, within the 8-hour framework.n the 8-hour framework. General Administrative Duties Maintain up-to-date communication details for youth participants and families. Focus outreach efforts on key tools such as email and text platforms (e.g., Remind, GroupMe). Coordinate event logistics (e.g., sign-up sheets, reminders) with streamlined processes to save time. Support simple hospitality and belonging systems (e.g., nametags) that help children, youth, families, and volunteers feel welcome and connected. Attend staff meetings. Time Allocation and Scope This role is designed to be responsive to current program needs within a limited 8-hour weekly framework. Specific responsibilities may shift over time based on volunteer capacity, staffing changes, and congregational priorities, in consultation with the Director of Children and Youth Programming. Clear prioritization will be maintained to ensure sustainability and prevent role overload. This position is expected to evolve over time as Children & Youth programming continues to develop. Throughout this evolution, this role supports volunteers and youth through coordination and collaboration and does not include supervisory responsibility. Ideal Qualifications In accordance with UUA Safe Congregations standards , applicants who are at least 25 years of age are preferred. Applicants who are at least 22 years of age will be considered based on experience, qualifications, and ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with teenagers. At least one year experience, comfort and familiarity working youth and youth culture required. Knowledge of and experience with Unitarian Universalism, and UU youth culture strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse people in diverse situations. Ability to publicly articulate and teach UU values. Strong organizational skills, and fluency with email, Google Drive, and social media. Strong time management skills are essential, along with the ability to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Patience and a sense of humor are helpful. Additional ideal, but not necessary, qualifications are Our Whole Lives (OWL) facilitator training , and district or regional Youth Advisor Training and other youth related trainings (Chaplaincy, Youth Worship, Leadership Development, etc.). Successfully pass the required background check. Preferred high school graduate or equivalent with some higher educational experience. Note that qualifications may be met as a result of lived experience, volunteer work, educational experience, professional experience, and/or formal or informal training. Relationships Supervision provided by the Director of Children and Youth Programming. Other coordinating relationships include the BVUUF Lifespan Faith Formation Council, Youth Advisors, parents, adult volunteers and youth.
