Renamed in Barbaras's honor, in 2022, the organization provides after-school programming, senior services, counseling, and community enrichment activities free of charge to help underserved residents overcome educational, social, and economic barriers. Position Summary Barbara's House seeks a Community Social Worker to support therapeutic, recreational, and enrichment programming for youth, families and senior citizens. This position combines community social work practice with direct hands-on program facilitation, and includes administrative support to the Executive Director, contributing to the organization's mission of fostering growth, connection, and well-being across generations. Schedule Full-time, Monday through Friday, on-site Occasional evening and weekend hours Occasional driving of the company minivan for off-site programming and events Benefits Health insurance 401(k)
Key Responsibilities Social Work & Participant Support:
Build supportive relationships with participants, conduct assessments, and goal planning Provide short-term counseling, crisis intervention, advocacy, and case management Connect participants with community resources (housing, food, education, healthcare, employment, etc.) Maintain accurate, confidential records and follow mandated-reporting procedures
Youth Programming:
Support daily operations of the After the Bell Homework Club (arrival through dismissal) Plan and lead recreational, educational, and social-emotional activities Mentor students and support academic, college/career, and independent-living goals Supervise field trips, outings, and special events; communicate with parents as needed
Senior Programming:
Build relationships with senior participants; identify social, emotional, and practical needs Plan and lead wellness activities (games, chair exercise, workshops, social events) Provide outreach, counseling, and referrals for isolation, grief, health, or housing concerns Coordinate with housing staff, families, and healthcare/community providers Program Coordination & Administration Assist with planning and daily operation of programs; develop calendars and materials Collaborate with schools, community partners, volunteers, and interns Collect program data and support reporting/evaluation Provide administrative and clerical support to the Executive Director Qualifications BSW or MSW Experience with youth and/or senior populations Strong facilitation, organizational, and communication skills Valid driver's license in good standing Comfortable balancing hands-on program work with administrative duties
