Part - time (20 - 25 hrs. per. wk.) The Resource Room is a community-based organization which inspire, equip and validate people while providing opportunities and reconnecting our community to successful possibilities. The Resource Room is raising the next generation of young leaders who are ready to join efforts at making changes that we create and demand.
Position Summary:
The Afterschool Counselor will assist in providing program content that will assist students in improving their academics skills, physical talents, and social emotional abilities. The Afterschool Counselors will work with parents through the Site Leaders to ensure the students are learning and socializing in a positive manner. To be a successful Afterschool Counselor, you should be thorough and caring with an eye for detail. You should be prepared to meet the physical demands of the position and have an understanding of the childhood development process.
Essential Duties and Requirements:
Providing the students with quality and accurate homework assistance. Assist in the planning and implementation of program required components Developing and encouraging age-appropriate learning and socialization to ensure students learn basic skills and concepts. Maintaining a safe workplace by monitoring children for health, behavioral, and emotional issues and reporting concerns to staff and parents. Helping the students discover new interests by introducing them to art, music, sports, and other potential hobbies. Work closely with third party stakeholders for program quality Work with the parents to help the student progress towards educational and behavioral goals.
Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience working with youth in a summer camp and/or afterschool care setting. o Current College student earning a degree in Sociology, Social Work, Human Services, Education, or other field related preferred. High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must obtain the 40-childcare license. Decisiveness, patience, and stamina to care for children. Ability to pass a background check. Understanding of stages of childhood development. Attentiveness to the needs and safety of children. Ability to maintain professional rapport with staff & community/corporate partners. Experience understanding needs assessments Be proficient in the Microsoft Office Suites such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel. Must maintain a valid Driving Licenses at all times during employment. Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines. Ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic and social groups. Outstanding organizational, follow-up, follow-through and listening skills are essential.
