A Family, School, or General Social Worker provides specialized assistance to vulnerable families and children. Intervenes in crisis situations; evaluates individual and family needs, helps clients get access to health care, mental health care or social services such as housing assistance. Advocates for clients and provides follow up visits. May work with teachers, parents and school administrators to help students improve academically and deal with social issues such as bullying.
Until Filled Crystal Lake District 47 currently has an opening for a School Counselor/Social Worker (School-Wide-Grant). The goal of this position is to provide services within the elementary schools that allows for early intervention and includes providing services to and on behalf of general education students whose educational and/or psychosocial development is restricted due to social, emotional, and/or behavioral considerations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Consult and collaborate with staff and parents about prevention, early interventions, and community resources and outside therapies Assist with referral and/or maintaining communication with community or private agencies for further evaluation, treatment, or services when needed Serve as a contributing member on building and district level teams (i.e. crisis team, MTSS team, student services building teams, grade level teams, PBIS, dept meetings etc.) Support general ed students to help solve problems or develop functional skills related to the learning environment Maintain current with research findings, knowledge of child development, cultural influences, economical influences and practices relevant to the area of social work and education Cooperation with other building staff, plan and conduct in-service presentations, staff trainings, newsletters for teachers, parents, administrators, or community groups to enhance understanding of and services for the educational and social/emotional development of children outside of special education Serve as a liaison between the community and school Establish a culture for positive school climate by demonstrating respect and rapport with Staff, Parent/Guardians, students and Community Stakeholders Other duties as assigned
Skills and Experience Required:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License School Social Work OR School Counselor endorsement Master's Degree in Social Work OR School Counselor Effective positive interpersonal communication skills
