Job Description

Summary Overview Ridge United Methodist Church in Munster, IN is seeking a passionate and energetic Director of Children's Ministries to inspire and engage young people within our community. This vital role combines outreach efforts, youth mentorship, social media engagement and spiritual guidance to foster a supportive environment where children and teenagers can grow in faith, confidence, and community involvement. Job Description The Director of Children's Ministries is a part-time position with flexible hours required to meet the responsibilities of this position. Under the direction of the Senior Pastor, the Director of Children's Ministries shall provide leadership, direction and supervision for the outreach, fellowship, and faith formation for children from preschool through middle school. Shall follow the employee guidelines as stated in the Employee Handbook, Child Protective/Safe Sanctuaries Guidelines, and the policies outlined in the United Methodist Church (UMC) Book of Discipline. Primary Duties Lead Christian formation of children (preschool through middle school), cultivating a life of personal and social holiness. Recruit, train and empower volunteer leaders; this includes background checks. Communicate regularly with children and families. Promote children's ministries both within and beyond the church. Lead curriculum development and provide staff leadership for Sunday School, coordinating and supporting Christian education volunteers. Conduct regular coordination meetings with education volunteers. Lead planning and organization for annual Vacation Bible School or its equivalent. Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This is not an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required. Ensure that information in the church database and office (including forms relating to background checks, Parent Permission Slips, Driver Forms, etc.) is accurately maintained. Coordinate and communicate regularly with other staff and leaders. Plan and manage the budget for children's ministries. Partner with parents to become actively and intentionally involved in the Christian formation of their families. Lead the Children's Education Committee. Develop appropriate, supportive, and loving Christian relationships with children. Act as an advocate for children and for their best interests in the church. Other duties as assigned or directed by Senior Pastor.
Skills and Requirements:
A strong and growing personal commitment to Christ and His teachings, and to the Church's mission of helping children grow in their faith. A heart, passion, and love for God's children. Team-oriented and ability to work with a variety of people. Organized, creative, and possessed of strong communication skills. Must be available for Sunday School and other church services (as required). Familiarity with the United Methodist Church and Wesleyan theology is encouraged, though not required. Plan and organize occasional special events for children (such as The Amazing Race, Parents Night Out, and the Christmas Pageant). Background check required. Education /

Experience working with children's ministries is preferred.
Salary:
Salary will be set commensurate with an average work week of 15 hours.
