Compensation:
$150.00
•$195.00 per day (Depending on qualifications) Job Summary We are seeking a highly qualified, compassionate, and collaborative Long-Term Substitute School Adjustment Counselor to support our Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) student population. In this role, you will provide direct counseling services, coordinate transitions, and collaborate with educators and families to ensure student success. Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is strictly required.
Key Responsibilities Direct Student Support:
Provide individual and group counseling as a direct service to DHH students as mandated by their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
IEP Management & Compliance:
Attend IEP meetings, fully implement all counselor-specific IEP goals/accommodations, and assist in developing student intervention plans.
Curriculum Integration:
Collaborate with classroom teachers to embed Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and co-teach SEL lessons.
Transition Planning:
Coordinate and guide student transition planning to prepare students for future educational or vocational settings.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Act as a key liaison between home-school representatives, families, human service agencies, and district personnel to ensure access to necessary supports.
Consultation:
Provide professional consultation to DHH program staff and school district personnel regarding the unique needs of children who are Deaf or hard of hearing.
Itinerant Services:
Drive and travel between multiple school buildings and program locations as required by student service schedules.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Master's Degree in School Counseling, Social Work, or a related clinical mental health field.
Language Proficiency:
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
Specialized Knowledge:
Deep understanding of unique supports, interventions, and accommodations for children who are Deaf or have reduced hearing. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in promoting children's social-emotional well-being. Familiarity with local human service agencies and the processes required to access their services.
Skills & Abilities:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work both highly independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders (families, teachers, leadership). Knowledge of and comfort with modern technology required for service delivery, family communication, and district coordination.
Logistics & Physical Requirements:
Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation to travel between multiple district locations. Physical ability and willingness to execute all standard job responsibilities in a school setting.
