A Family, School, or General Social Worker provides specialized assistance to vulnerable families and children. Intervenes in crisis situations; evaluates individual and family needs, helps clients get access to health care, mental health care or social services such as housing assistance. Job Description

To secure permanency for children in out of home care by identifying an appropriate placement resource, providing direct services to the child, foster/adoptive families and birth families.
Job Duties:
  • Maintain at least monthly contact with each child in his/her foster/adoptive placement. Explore issues of separation and loss and becoming part of an adoptive family through development of a Life Book and individual counseling with the child. At all times, the incumbent will provide customer services to both internal and external customs that meets or exceeds the standards set by the Department.
  • Complete case plans and complete reconsiderations timely for each child as required by state policy and regulation.
Compose court reports and submit at least 15 working days prior to court review, attend and testify at court reviews, enter appropriate data into the CJAMS system, submit appropriate forms for correct payment of providers and assure medical assistance coverage when necessary and as required by state policy and
  • Provide services to birth parents that are both court ordered and needs assessment driven. Schedule and supervise visits with both parents and siblings per court order and/or agency policy. Inform both parents regarding all Termination of Parental Rights matters and attempt to get their assistance in providing family medical history and other important birth family information.
  • Prepare for TPR Hearings by collecting records, meeting with agency attorney and reviewing all available information in order to present pertinent testimony. Compile all documents needed for filing of the adoption petition. Negotiate and prepare initial adoption subsidy prior to finalization.
  • Prepare comprehensive written social summaries of children to present to prospective adoptive families, which contain full disclosure of known information regarding the child and birth family. Locate an appropriate adoptive resource for each child by completing and submitting applications, and/or child profile to Resource Homes Unit, AdoptUSkids and other local agencies.
  • Provides mass care and sheltering to surviving persons following a disaster affecting residents of Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland, when necessary.
These duties may include manning a shelter or assisting residents to file for assistance from FEMA or from State programs.
Education:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate behavioral science, such as: child development, sociology, social work, psychology, counseling, nursing, criminology, juvenile justice, human growth and development, human services, mental health or human resources management that includes at least 30 credit hours in human services or human development.

None. A background check is required for this position.
