OVERVIEW
The Homeless Shelter Case Aide plays a vital role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness by assisting the shelter coordinator and other case managers in delivering compassionate, client-centered services. This position ensures the shelter operates smoothly while helping residents access resources, maintain safety, and work toward stable housing and self-sufficiency.
RESPONSIBILITES/DUTIES
Adhere to the policies, procedures, and mission set forth by Diakonia Inc. and help our guests adhere to the guidelines they agree on upon intake for our services. To provide additional support to the Shelter Coordinator by coordinating the quality standards required in the service assigned, and helping clients clarify and understand shelter policies and procedures. Maintain an atmosphere of safety, well-being and confidentiality for all guests served. Provide emotional support and crisis intervention under supervision. Assist residents with daily needs including meals, hygiene supplies, and transportation coordination. Complete Intake paperwork with new guests and familiarize them with their new environment and Diakonia services. Support Shelter Coordinator with assessments and documentation of service plans and completion of mutually agreed upon goals. Complete administrative functions including but not limited to; making entries in the Communications logbook, TEAMS spreadsheets, and Case Management Software, as well as answering phones, completing forms, and assisting with referrals as needed. Provide training and monitoring of guest's daily responsibilities, connecting residents to community resources and options for self-independence. Provide on-site coaching and reminders of daily goals, upcoming appointments, and completion of tasks. Distribute informational materials to assist with applications for benefits, documentation, employment, and housing. Report any incidents or concerns to the Shelter Coordinator promptly. Participate in all staff meetings and training sessions. Assign food distribution through Diakonia food pantry and refer persons for SNAP information, if needed. Provide assistance to other team members and/or Diakonia programs as requested. Facilitate weekly classes with shelter guests.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma, Associates Degree in some human services or like education preferred, and/or one year experience in human services or related field. Clear background check that would not limit serving our population. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm and empathetic in high-stress situations. Ability to work various shifts, weekends, and holidays due to 24/7 operation. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position includes physical demands of; a lot of moving in and around the facility grounds, climbing stairs, bending, and occasional lifting approximately 25 to 35 pounds.

From $17.00 per hour
