A Family, School, or General Social Worker provides specialized assistance to vulnerable families and children. Intervenes in crisis situations; evaluates individual and family needs, helps clients get access to health care, mental health care or social services such as housing assistance. Advocates for clients and provides follow up visits. May work with teachers, parents and school administrators to help students improve academically and deal with social issues such as bullying.

Job Description

To promote family wellness and parent involvement programs and to support the implementation of the family partnership process. Operate as a liaison between classroom and home settings in the area of education, child development and mental health. Verify age and income of families according to MAP's Procedures and guidelines. Replace vacancies according to procedures to ensure that center maintain full enrollment. Assist with the preparation and mailing parent survey. Assist with preparation and distribution of recruitment materials. Track attendance of children in assigned caseload in accordance with attendance policies and procedures; record in computerized system Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology or related field that includes coursework in the principles of social work, child development, counseling, and or psychology preferred. Minimum of two years experience in family social services setting preferred, including knowledge and experience relating to community resources for referrals to families in need of services. The skill and willingness to deal with sensitive family situations in a non-threatening and professional manner. Ability to set and maintain professional boundaries with families. Knowledge of early childhood education and intervention preferred. Computer literacy and familiarity with various applications such as word processing, e-mail and internet. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have flexible schedule to accommodate family needs, may include some evening or weekend hours.
