Job Description
Job Summary Work effectively as a member of the Family Services Department to implement the Head Start Family and Community Partnership and ERSEA Performance Standards and local Head Start policies in providing children and families with Head Start program services. These services include, but are not limited to, family engagement, disabilities services, assistance in classroom, and health services; participate in workshops, trainings and other sessions designed to increase job skills; enhance job duties necessary to departmental operations. Work with community agencies to attain resources for services for Head Start families. Assist Head Start families in accessing programs locally, state and federal agencies and organizations. Assist families in obtaining transportation to Head Start services. Maintain proper documentation of services to Head Start families. Facilitates scheduled and year-round recruitment, application and enrolment of children for Head Start classroom vacancies and/or Head Start waiting lists. Meet with parents to evaluate family needs and complete Family Partnership Agreement. Track goals set and progress toward meeting these family goals. Assist with parent meetings and provide assistance to parents when planning and implementing their activities. Participate in workshops and training activities as required by agency and supervisor. Work in cooperation with Health Service staff and classroom staff in providing advocacy, transportation and assessment of needs of Head Start children and families for medical, dental, nutrition, parent, family and community engagement services, and other health services and needed. Assist families in scheduling medical and dental screening exams and follow-up appointments for Head Start children within the required time limits. Assist Health services in screening of Head Start children in heights, weights, vision, hearing and hemoglobin within the required time limit. Ensure compliance with Head Start regulations and prepare timely and accurate required documentation. Participate in staffing sessions to help assess children and family needs. Make and record home visits. Develop family plans to meet the family and community services needs of Head Start families. Make and record referrals and follow-up of services provided. Hold office interviews and parent conferences as needed. Support children and families in emergency situations. Distribute Parent handbook, Resource Booklet and other information and materials to parents. Contact parents of children whose attendance is irregular. Responsible for complying with applicable federal, state and local statues, regulations and policies in effect. Recruit volunteers for the agency and assist the center supervisor with the verification of center's volunteers and in-kind records and reports. Assist parents in educational and career development activities as well as arranging for parent participation in planning classroom, center and home activities for their children. Input and retrieve data from the computer as needed on children, families and community, to assure that the goals and objectives of the department is being met. Licensed Social Worker with BS Degree in Social Work, or BS or advanced degree in Social Work, Family Services, Human Services, Counseling or a related field Valid driver license Advanced computer literacy including, database management, spreadsheet, word processing, internet and e-mail. Require knowledge and experience in data collection and information processes and system. Must be able to keep confidential information. Ability to communicate effectively with all people. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work with people on the poverty level. Ability to work in a professional manner both independently and with other in a team environment. Frequent sitting, working at computer keyboard and desk, regular standing to file, train and perform other functions. Occasional bending, stooping and lifting up to 25 pounds. Occasional climbing to enter and exit bus. The Family Service/ERSEA Director, with input from the PFCE Director, using agency forms and general discussion period according to the agency's policies and procedures shall evaluate the Family Advocate at least annually.
