The position assists children and families by providing information, resources, referrals, and connections to community services. Responsibilities include supporting families in identifying and accessing quality childcare, tracking visitors, materials, and referrals, and maintaining current knowledge of community agencies, events, programs, and other resources available to support families.
Essential Duties:
Perform a broad range of duties to develop or enhance Smart Start's mission and relationships in the community; Manage and oversee all aspects of the Early Learning Resource Center; Greet and support ELRC visitors including families, children, and early childhood professionals; Keep ELRC organized and clean; tidying up after children and families visit, including vacuuming and sanitizing toys, tables, chairs, touch surfaces such as doorknobs, etc.; Clean and sanitize materials from resource theme boxes upon their return;[SP1] Provide child care referrals and community resource information to families and educators as needed; Inventory ELRC materials including resource books, theme boxes, theme kits, and equipment. Replenish as necessary; Collect and organize documentation associated with the ELRC including membership forms/guidelines, inventory database, payments/equipment usage fees, and overdue and renewal notices; Track and provide quarterly report information for the Early Care & Education Director associated with ELRC; Research opportunities for grants and donations for early childhood teachers and books; Promote knowledge of, access to, enrollment in Smart Start community- based services;
•implement bilingual outreach strategies to enhance processes; Facilitate access and use of community resources, early childhood services, and SSNHC projects for target populations, as required; Assist in the distribution of outreach and educational materials to the public, the press, and the professional community; Attend community meetings to speak about SSNHC services- particularly the ELRC, early childhood and child development; Maintain up-to-date, accurate documentation and records of all activities and services provided; Coordinate efforts in planning and distribution of kindergarten registration packets to NHC early childhood programs; Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualification Standards Broad knowledge of the Smart Start initiative; Understanding of early childhood community resources for families and young children; Organizational and project management skills; Concise oral, written and presentation abilities (
•in English and Spanish preferred); Interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, community members, and other staff; Ability to receive instruction and execute assignments effectively, independently or as part of a team within a specified timeframe; Demonstrated problem-solving and creativity skills; Record-keeping skills; and computer competency in Microsoft Office and internet usage; Ability to travel, work evenings and Saturdays, as needed; Confident and engaging, with the ability to build rapport easily and Valid driver's license. Education, Training, and Experience Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years experience working in human services, early childhood setting or community organizations in an outreach capacity.
