Family Engagement Coordinators (FEC) work to bridge communication between families and students with language barriers and the school. FECs proactively seek to enhance students' growth by helping parents get the information and support they need to ensure their participation in their child's academic and social growth.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as an interpreter and translator between home and school. Coordinates with school administrators, ELL teachers, classroom teachers, social workers and guidance. Assist in case-managing of students, join other staff to assist with home visits, coordinate services with the school, city agencies, and other city departments. Facilitate ongoing engagement activities to help educate and counsel families and at-risk students regarding educational and personal options. Assist all parents with registering their child(ren) in school. Other duties as assigned by the Director of ELL and Director of Title 1. Interpret for parents/guardians at Parent-Teacher conferences, Open House nights, and one Family Engagement night in your assigned building.QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates will possess an Associates degree or 2 years of college in a related field with appropriate work experience; preferably with service agencies and in an urban setting Strong oral and written communication skills in two languages (one being English) Ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements. Strong interpersonal skills to support families in crisis. Strong organizational and record keeping skills. Complete/are currently enrolled in one of the interpreter training courses below or equivalent Southern NH Area Health Education Center Language Bank Training Massachusetts Medical Interpreter Training Northshore Community College UNH Medical Interpreter (Spanish/English) Nashua Community College Medical Interpreter Training (Spanish/English)PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physically performs sedentary work exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force infrequently, up to ten (10) pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting. Position includes walking or standing for brief or intermittent periods of time. Occasionally reach above shoulders, kneel and bend. Mental demands requiring decision-making, analytical and organizational skills in order to achieve work objectives, draw daily operational conclusions, solve practical problems, use computer technology and to present information for use by students, peers and administration.
