The Family Services Specialist will consult and collaborate with Title I students, families, teachers, and other school personnel to identify and provide comprehensive social work services to address social and academic barriers that impact student success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assess and address barriers that limit a student from receiving the full benefit of their educational experience.
• Demonstrate appropriate social work skills in working with students, families, and staff.
• Demonstrate knowledge of social work skills to effectively perform job responsibilities.
• Demonstrate effective organizational skills.
• Follow policies and administrative rules and regulation as specified in the Board Policy Manual.
• Work effectively with Title 1 Staff and Principals.
• Participate in professional development activities aimed at current trends and best practices for the provision of comprehensive school social work services.
• Confer with family members to discuss the implementation of service plans, goals, and progress. Complete required reports in a timely manner as requested.
• Stay abreast of current community resources to determine how their services may be beneficial to the student, their family, and family?s involvement in the academic process and life skills.
• Establish basic case management procedures for effective social work intervention.
• Demonstrate knowledge of cultural competency.
• Provide transportation for Title I parents and students as needed.
• Conduct home visits as a method to assess the family and conduct interviews in response to school referrals.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain familiarity with Title I rules and guidelines.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings.
• Maintain contact with community agencies that provide life essential services not available through Clovis Municipal School Systems. Provide referrals to clients and their families to these agencies when necessary.
• Serve as an advocate for the students and families included in the Title I program of Clovis Municipal School System.
• Be familiar with social work laws and professional code of ethics.
• Must take CPR and Defensive Driving training for transport of students
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Superintendent.

Qualifications:

• Master?s degree in Social Work preferred.
• Valid license with the New Mexico Public Education Department as a social worker, guidance counselor, school psychologist or related area.
• Demonstrate aptitude for job performance.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.

Safety and Health:

?Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate, or be willing to learn to operate, all multimedia equipment including current technology.

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. Various school settings (small group or conference room(s), or nurses office). After hours work may be required. May make site or home visits when needed and appropriate. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
