Job Description

The Opportunity The Family Peer Advocate will incorporate personal experience parenting a child with special needs to support parents and strengthen their ability to keep their child at home and within their community. Responsibilities Meet with families according to their scheduling needs Increase awareness of and enhance family strengths. Advocate for services and systems that are fair, responsive, and family driven. Assist families to rediscover and reconnect to natural community supports. Promote effective parent-professional system partnerships. Address barriers that may prevent full service participation. Empower families to make informed decisions and advocate on behalf of and in collaboration to promote shared decision making. Prepare and accompany families to meetings to ensure their voice is included in the planning and decision-making at all levels. Conduct groups to offer opportunities for families to connect and reduce isolation. Link to and provide workshops to enhance parenting skills. Complete all documentation by required deadlines and in compliance with agency and funding regulations. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Family Peer Advocate Certification preferred. Intermediate computer skills. Must have lived experience parenting a child with special needs. Valid and clean driver's license.
