Job Description
Position Summary Kulanu Academy is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative School Social Worker to join our multidisciplinary team. The School Social Worker will provide therapeutic, social-emotional, and behavioral support to students with disabilities while working closely with families, teachers, related service providers, and school leadership. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with diverse learning, developmental, behavioral, and social-emotional needs and will be committed to helping students achieve greater success both in and outside of the classroom. About the Role This is an excellent opportunity for a School Social Worker who enjoys working collaboratively in a supportive special-education environment and wants to make a meaningful impact on the academic, social, and emotional development of students with disabilities. Essential Responsibilities Provide individual and group counseling services to students in accordance with their needs and educational plans. Develop and implement appropriate therapeutic and social-emotional goals for students. Monitor, document, and evaluate student progress and adjust interventions as appropriate. Conduct observations, assessments, and consultations to identify students' social-emotional and behavioral needs. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and strategies for support. Participate in student meetings, interdisciplinary team meetings, and other school-based meetings as required. Support students in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, self-advocacy, and positive social relationships. Assist with crisis intervention and provide appropriate support when students experience behavioral or emotional challenges. Maintain timely and accurate documentation, progress notes, reports, and other required records. Maintain student confidentiality and adhere to all applicable professional, legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements. Maintain positive and professional relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners. Follow Kulanu Academy policies and procedures and all applicable New York State requirements. Qualifications Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program. Current New York State social work license required. Previous experience working with children, adolescents, or individuals with disabilities strongly preferred. School-based or special education experience preferred. Strong understanding of social-emotional development, behavioral support, and therapeutic interventions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
