Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Shelter Manager (ASM), the Family Engagement Coordinator (FEC) develops, coordinates, and facilitates recreational, educational, wellness, and life skills programming for children, adults, and families residing at Marian Hall Family Shelter. Through engaging, family-centered programming, the FEC fosters resident engagement, healthy child development, positive parenting, independent living skills, social connection, emotional well-being, and successful transitions to permanent housing. The FEC creates a safe, welcoming, trauma-informed, and resident-centered environment by planning meaningful activities, facilitating educational groups, encouraging positive social interaction, and promoting active participation in shelter life. Serving as a positive role model, the FEC reinforces healthy behaviors, personal responsibility, constructive use of time, community integration, and adherence to shelter policies while helping residents build the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills necessary to achieve long-term housing stability and self-sufficiency. Through structured family activities, life skills education, and non-clinical coaching, the FEC supports parents and caregivers by modeling positive parent-child interactions, reinforcing healthy parenting practices, promoting age-appropriate child development, strengthening family relationships, and encouraging routines that contribute to family stability and overall well-being. The FEC collaborates closely with the Assistant Shelter Manager and other shelter staff to assess resident interests and needs, coordinate resident programming, organize special events, cultivate community partnerships and volunteer opportunities, and enhance the overall resident experience. The Family Engagement Coordinator is committed to maintaining a trauma-informed workplace that reflects kindness, professionalism, cultural humility, inclusion, and respect for residents, colleagues, volunteers, and community partners. The position requires flexibility to meet the operational needs of the shelter and will include evenings, weekends, holidays, and additional hours as necessary to support resident programming, special events, emergency shelter operations, contract requirements, and agency initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION
(Not the Individual Qualification) 1. Minimum of High School Diploma or GED; Associates Degree Preferred 2. 2 years' experience in planning, coordinating, and implementing recreational activities preferred 3. Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people 4. Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for HONOR's mission. 5. Detail-oriented and have competent literacy and writing, documentation, communications, and interpersonal abilities (friendly, courteous, helpful, ability to work as part of a team). 6. Ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work with residents, staff, and support agencies. 7. Proficiency with Microsoft Word 8. On a continuing basis, stand, sit, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and reach, and lift and carry weight of 25 pounds or less while coordinating and/or supervising recreation activities. 9. Bi-lingual preferred 10.
Valid NYS Driver's License Pay:
$20.50 per hour
