Job Description
Substitute School Social Worker - Leave Coverage October 2026 - February 2027 The Rome City School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substitute School Social Worker to provide temporary coverage for a leave of absence from October 2026 through February 2027. Reporting to the Director of Counseling Services, the School Social Worker plays a vital role in promoting student well-being and academic success by addressing social, emotional, and environmental barriers to learning. The successful candidate will provide direct student support, crisis intervention, case management, and evidence-based interventions while fostering strong partnerships among students, families, school staff, and community agencies. The School Social Worker will contribute to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school climate and respond thoughtfully to the diverse cultural backgrounds, needs, and family dynamics of students. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified social worker to support students and families within a collaborative school environment during a temporary leave assignment. Minimum Requirements
Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited program.
New York State School Social Worker Certification.
New York State licensure as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW).
Experience working with adolescents in an educational, clinical, or community-based setting preferred.
Knowledge of social-emotional development, trauma-informed practices, and family systems.
Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational, and case management skills.
Ability to effectively collaborate with students, families, school staff, and community agencies.
Understanding of confidentiality requirements and ethical standards applicable to school social work.
Proficiency in documentation, reporting, and maintaining confidential student records.
