A Family, School, or General Social Worker provides specialized assistance to vulnerable families and children. Intervenes in crisis situations; evaluates individual and family needs, helps clients get access to health care, mental health care or social services such as housing assistance. Advocates for clients and provides follow up visits. May work with teachers, parents and school administrators to help students improve academically and deal with social issues such as bullying.

QUALIFICATIONS
2-year degree in Social Work, Human Services or other related field, or a Family Development Credential, or equivalent formal education or training. Experience working with low-income families; knowledge of agencies and services available to address the needs of families in Onondaga County. A valid New York State driver license and reliable transportation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide crisis-intervention or counseling services as needed to assigned families of enrolled preschool children. Refer families to other services as needed. Help families to set goals, and implement Family Partnership Agreements. Conduct at least three home visits per year for each family on the caseload. Document all case notes in database.
Schedule:
Full-time, 47 weeks per year (5-week temporary unpaid layoff every summer, with eligibility for 4 weeks of unemployment benefits). Paid leave includes all school district holidays and breaks during the school year, plus additional accumulated paid leave.
